There are some great dentists here in China.  Just ask around your local expat community and I am sure they can point you in the right direction.

There are quite a number of very competent dentists in China, and also there are many who should not be allowed even to prescribe vitamins to you.

You do not say what is your dental problem, so it is harder to give you a proper answer.  I will tell you what I did.  Due to many reasons, I had only 8 teeth left in my mouth, and it was very difficult to eat.  I checked back home (USA) before coming here and for a full set of teeth IMPLANTED I was asked from $ 25,000 to $ 30,000 US dollars.  When I came to China, started visiting dentists and asking for a quote.  Here I got from 2,000 Rmb per tooth up to 10,000 Rmb per tooth implanted.  Dental plates (dentures) were from 2,000 to 3,500 Rmb on quotes.
In talking with many dentists, and asking many questions, I located a dentist who got his studies in USA, spoke English, and I was impressed when he showed me photos of some of his work.  So, we wheeled and dealed some, and agreed on a total price of 17,600 Rmb for 22 implants, including extractions, curing gums, placing posts and installing teeth, with a one year warrantee.  It took him a total of 6 weeks to do it, and that was 6 months ago, and I am very happy with the results, soime even have complemented me for having "perfect teeth" at my age, and I can eat any darn thing I want, hard or soft.
If you lived in Guangxi Province, I would recommend him.  He is in his 30"s or so, and right now he is the Dental Director at the local People's Hospital, in charge of training recent graduates among other things.  He does that in the mornings, afternoons are for private practice.

May I suggest to do your homework, then decide what to do and where

Medical Care in China is generally very good. I have had teeth cleaned and also a cap put on.

I had surgery a few years ago in China and also had stitches once at a hospital. The medical care was just as good as the US and a lot more cost effective.

When having surgery (even dental surgery), always give the doctor a hong bao....it encourages him to do a great job and helps to build the relationship.

Also research the options carefully. You can save a great deal of money going to a tier 3 city to a decent sized hospital that typically doesnt cater to Westerners, especially if you bargain.

The doctors sometimes feel honored and a sense of pride, that you came to them at a local facility instead of some fancy western hospitial or office in a tier 1 city. Just my 2 cents.
