Q: A bit of a rant(I feel a little pissed off)
I work in a kindergarten and it will not be open for the school holidays, its closing down.reason my boss did some bad business with some one she was in partnership with at the kindergarten and they have returned to take back the kindergarten.
so our kindergarten is closing down.next term we will have new owners.
anyway I am pissed off because I was promised summer class work for the holidays and now we dont have work. The last day is the 11th of July.July,August until the end of September with no income.thats along time without salary.we dont get holiday pay.
I have a family to support.this year if you include Chinese new year thats almost 5 months without pay.
I have been looking for work since I knew of the kindergarten closing.have a job intiview on Friday.
I have given 12 years to this kindergarten only to be kicked in the teeth time and time again.yes its partly my fault as I should have left.
my boss does not give a shit about anything.as long as she does not lose out.
anyway sorry for the bad spelling and grammar.just needed to get this off my chest.

It's evident from the picture.. you are passing through a hell of a time..
but fingers crossed.. maybe the next owners will give you a raise....
Good luck in that summer job hunt
I was thinking that the change maybe a good thing.I can get my contract looked at and maybe some holiday pay.
hunny797:
12 year!!!! Man..that's a long time.. Considering all the odd situations you mentioned..
1. 12yrs in China
2. 12yrs same school..even though they did what they did to you..
One needs to be tough for that...
philbravery:
No everybody else is in theropy
have you thought about a admin role with some of the bigger companies ?
Maybe you should cut your losses and make a fresh start in a new school- and negotiate your contract to give yourself some stability. I don't know what city you're in but plenty of different schools can offer you something more stable. You deserve to get paid holiday.
14 years? Man you should automatically be awarded Emperor status on the forums lol.
Man, I sent you a message, check your box. It'll help.
I don't think I can help you, Rob.
Have you thought about packing up and moving somewhere else? Perhaps Xinjiang?
I know a place that would be very interested in an experienced kindy teacher.
Hakupatasa:
Or perhaps to Guiyang..
My wife has joined a institute, teaching 1 on 1. She earns more than me at research (CAS). What I hear from her, the institute still needs other teachers..
I was asked, if I could teach...I am not a native speaker and I have no interest in teaching..
She was asked to join another school (kindergarten too) but declined the offer as she already has one..
Just an idea, to explore the emerging economics/market/cities..
The Chinese teaching experience you have accumulated is off the scales, so you should definitely stay in China. Chinese kindy experience isn't worth much elsewhere.
I know you're pissed off, but your situation is hardly problematic: This is the best season to look for new jobs, and you can have your pick as such an oldtimer. There are probably summer cams you can do elsewhere, if you want to wait for your old place to reopen.
And don't be too submissive and desperate when doing job interviews. Chinese will walk all over you if you do. You qualify for the best kindy jobs out there, so be sure to show it.
Not sure of your visa status, nor your city, but surely you can make a few quid from 1-1 or small groups... most parents would throw their kids at a foreigner in the hope something would rub off... and pay for you to catch them for 2 seconds!
As mentioned by the posts above, your teaching experience is now off the charts and as there is always a lot of demand for kindergarten teachers in any cities I have been in, getting a better job shouldn't be difficult for you. It depends on which city you are in but most of the bigger cities in China are desperate for kindergarten teachers and could probably be made to give you a much better deal.
The key is being confident and not stepping down until you have a good or at least fair deal.
I worked in Manufacturing in the UK for 25 odd years. In that time I saw hundreds, if not low thousands of people lose their jobs. In the late 90's, early 2000s it seemed there was an announcement every 6 months.
I was made redundant twice. Once after 3 years and once after 12 years.
I know it's of no consolation at the moment, but almost every person I knew well done ok after they lost their jobs. It's that old thing of being stuck in a rut without realizing it. I know all about that.... because I am in one myself at the moment.
You will be fine. You are married so can get your Q1 (bet you already have a D). Maybe even send your wife out to work ...... erm.....(sorry to offend by my presumption).
There is no such thing as loyalty to workers these days.
Good luck dude.
Chin up and pour some beer down your throat . But don't forget to open your mouth first
.
Thank you everyone for the positive feed back, the type of visa I am on is a 2 year resident permit because of being married with a baby.
I want to find the right job that will be good for me as well as my family.
although I have not lost my job at the kindergarten I do feel that a change would be good for the better.
if all goes well with an interview I have tonight,I might have a part time job at training centre for the summer holiday teaching kindergarten children.
The city that I live in is Shenzhen.
kindergarten in international schools in shandong, qingdao and jinan pay about 20k with apartment, but position for september probably are already filled right now. good luck.
I saw a foreigner director kindergarten job advertised. Can you not embellish your cv a bit and go for that?
Here you go RobRocks. Here is an example of a companies loyalty to it's staff:

Microsoft announce 18k job losses.
I have been following the Nokia saga for a few years now, and this is a prime example of how employees are totally at the mercy of decisions made by the board. First, the then Nokia CEO of a few years back announced they would not use Android or continue developing their own OS, Meamo. Sales go down..... Then they bring in an ex microsoft executive as CEO..... shares go down, manufacturing moves east. Microsoft buy Nokia, Nokia CEO gets a place on microsoft board, microsoft brings in a new CEO..... change of direction.... bang 18k jobs down the drain.
I lost a job in similar circumstances back in 1999. It sucks .
