Q: Black shoes are for older women?

Today a friend and I were shopping for shoes in the city. I told her I wanted to buy a pair of black heels, and she said that's for older women. As in, young women don't wear black shoes. I told her that every girl in America that has a pair of heels, chances are it's a black pair, because black goes with everything. I think she believed me, but I doubt she'll buy a pair of black heels herself. I think this explains why young women's shoe colors never match their outfits. What do you think? Cute, or a total faux pas?
