Q: Blood in the streets where I live. Anything happening where you are?

The end of the Muslim festival.  Haj.

This means that every family who can afford it buys and slaughters a beast out by their front door.

Lots of blood and skins about.  Some heads too.

We're going to a Uyghir friends house for some freshly killed mutton and other culture later this afternoon.  There'll be grog too.  Seems there's varying degrees of what's allowable and what's not.  Most will drink baijiu but I won't.  Life's not that grim that baijiu has to be taken internally.  I'll settle for beer.  Bit seedy though after yesterday's big trip up to Ghost City....that place is fantastic.  Rode a camel and had a burn around the desert in a 1950's style dune buggy and drank a gutfull.

All in all things aren't bad out here.  What's happening at your joint?

Enjoy!  I presume you are somewhere in Xinjiang.  Still on my list of places to visit.  No muslims in Changchun, just p!ss cold.

dongbeiren:

There are actually a fair number of Muslims here in Changchun and some great Muslim restaurants too :)

Yep, that's where I am.  Come visit one day.  The landscape out here is well worth the trip.

Is it funny looking, when farmers deliver beasts to the door?

Every high rise building in Fuk. has several lambs tied on the lawn in front. I'm not sure, is that 'delivery', or farmers try to 'selling it' first.

Not much in Kaifeng. Loads of people everywhere, but Chinese Jewish community is most likely celebrating Yom Kippur in their homes.

Going to EU tomorrow. Making valet and list ready for duty free shopping in Amsterdam.

royceH:

Didn't you just get back from there you travelling bastard?

I would live next to Muslims (Hui or Uyghurs) above Han Chinese anytime, if only they were allowed or made enough money to live in the nice "New Town" districts across China.

I will comfort myself with the delicious Hui restaurant in my garden before buying a German beer at 7-11. Tomorrow noon I might stop at the English brunch downstairs and eat some Japanese dish for dinner.

Anything but Chinese.

Wow, having some culture around you and actual things to do without a million farmers surrounding you sounds pretty wonderful. Im super envious. Enjoy!!

royceH:

Yeah, it's pretty good out here.  On Friday we went to a cotton farm to pick cotton and have a bbq.  Lots of spicy skewers and grog.  That was a good day, although I'm still a bit stiff from all the bending and picking.

No man you made a mistake man.
I'll tell you the right way and the proper way to spell "Chinese Culture".
Evening tutoring, enrolments, tuition and gaokao, that's the way they spell culture in China. Right on.

No knives, no forks, some bottles but few corks. This isn't New York

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
