I know in places like Canada and the US, bus drivers have it actually reasonably good in terms of salaries and benefits. They don't have the best job, but they do get well compensated.
Anyone know how much bus drivers/subway drivers make in the big cities here?

I would say it will depend basicaslly on which city or province the driver is at.
Like teaching within China, salary ranges from maybe 2,000 Rmb per month for teachers of small kids and 6,000 for college teachers to 15,000 or 20,000 for opennings in Shanghai and Beijing,the same will be for drivers.
Intercity bus drivers here make about 1500 Rmb per month, drivers of buses on highways locally make about 2,000 Rmb per month. I have no idea of subway drivers, nor trains, because I do not know any.
Here in China sometimes you wonder hw they can survive with such small salaries. It was hard for me at least, until I found out that the family unit is the secret to survival. With every member of a family unit working, and pulling all salaries earned together for a common goal, is that they can make ends meet.
Bus drivers should get paid a lot if you calculate the profits those busy and crazy buses make. Sometimes they are 40 plus on the bus at one time!
So they should be paid 3,000 in bigger cities, but only get about 1,500 as Happy Expat said.
I think the bus drivers in different city in china is different;
I am a english beginner.
