Q: Can anyone recommend a good electronic translator?

My phone doesn't do it and I am not buying one of those new mobiles just to translate. A dedicated translator would help I think. Does anybody use one and I don't mean an online one. I already use a couple. Portable. Can I buy one in China or is that too dangerous / stupid?

IMy recommendation: Casio brand (make sure not fake)

BESTA - a Taiwanese brand with established history one-dict. Not cheap but not sure if the Chinese characters is simplified or traditional. Here, they use simplified (hanyu pinyin). Pronunciation-wise, might be Taiwanese. Here, ppl said Beijingnese best.

Both being from bilingual (C-E) point.

Heard Hanvon not bad but XXX & might not be so good in Eng translation.

Maybe you can go to the local grocery and ask for recommendation before you make your own decision.

I used a BESTA for a few months, and while it was a decent translator/dictionary, it actually had too many features on it that made it a pain to use and it cost about 1000 RMB. If you already have an iPod/iPhone/Android phone, I would recommend first downloading Pleco, ChinesePod, and other assorted free/cheap apps to see if they do the trick.
