Q: Can Chinese people not tell tv-drama from reality ?
Inspired by Sparky saying that maybe people walk into traffic because they have seen people on tv with no fear and they still come out on top. ?
Is tv-drama too real for people ?
Many of the younger girls i have met base their view of foreign countries on what they have seen in movies or television. For example they all sigh and talk of visiting Paris because it is so romantic. i have heard many young guys complain that their girl-friends have begin copying the behavior they see on Korean dramas. Unfortuntley the formative socialising years seem to be spent isolated and studying rather than learning how to behave through experience........
They have absolutely no idea what's happening outside, so it's hard for them to draw the line between fiction and reality in foreign tv shows and movies.
Two girls who graduated at top Chinese universities -one working in a relatively large firm and the other being a university teacher- asked me if they really had dinosaurs on an island next to the US and if I wasn't scared of vampires in foreign countries.
Forget tv drama, i've had people ask me if Star Wars and King Kong were real. The word we're looking for is 'sheltered'.
Scandinavian:
King Kong was real, there is a Monkey Island in Hainan !
