I saw a job advertised looking for an IELTS teacher(not examiner). I thought usually only a chinese person could do this job, as sometimes complicated explanations are needed? However the job specified it was looking for a foreigner. I speak little chinese.

Can a Chinese teach English? Or is it pointless since they speak Chinglish.
laowaigentleman:
If you saw the disdain which so many of the Chinese English teachers attempt to hurl upon me by talking behind my back you'll start to believe in divine retribution when you see the Chinglish they've displayed all over the school.
The school's art teacher has had his profile put up in front of the school gate and clearly one of the Chinese English teachers was charged with the task of translating it to make it look "international". The Chinglish is even worse than the pretentious, incoherent nonsense written all over the building sites.
This year I'm just openly laughing at them. I don't care anymore. Three years in sounds about right. I'm becoming seasoned.
Eorthisio:
Take photos of their Chinglish with your cellphone and post them all over your Wechat feed with a mocking message without mentioning them (like you don't know who wrote this). Considering that you got someone from your school in your contact list, your mockery will end up to their ears sooner than later and they will have a massive loss of face.

Foreigner means non-NES? (Native English Speaker)
someone told me there are official IELTS examiners who are not NES. Actually it kinda surprised me, I assumed Cambridge would be snobby about that and only use Brits, or maybe Brits, Aussies, Canucks, & Kiwis. But I thought they would be too snobby about it to consider anyone else.
dokken:
I m not talking about being an ielts examiner but teaching Chinese students how to pass ielts. I thought that you would need to speak Chinese for that. Otherwise how can you explain things
diverdude1:
speaking a little Chinese definitely helps. but that's true in any teaching position, not just IELTS. and most people looking at IELTS have already moved past beginner-level Anglais (or that has been my experience anyway).
Shining_brow:
There are a number of NNES examiners for IELTS. Including a few Chinese.
The requirement isn't nativeness, but just general ability.
i have met other examiners from taiwan, south africa, and india, and philippines however in all cases they had immigrated or went to school in the west.
I taught for Beijing IELTS for four years and my Chinese sucks. There are always helpful bilingual students to help you out when you have to explain something.
The answer is a definitive YES, (I know cos I've been doing it for a while. Also have a few mates and colleagues who also do).
However, as you've just experiences, there does seem to be this ridiculous idea that either we shouldn't - cos the kids won't understand - or that we should only teach the Speaking. Bot are complete BS.
The other problem is, the students want miracles. They expect to be taught all the 'tricks' to get a high score, without actually knowing anything. If they can say the right things, the right way, they'll get their magic score. Foreigners can't teach those 'tricks', cos we're not used to the Chinese system of learning only for the exam.
And, lastly, I've been amazed that places like XDF (New Oriental) won't even hire certified IELTS examiners to teach IELTS - for the reasons stated above..!!! (Possibly also cos the examiners would probably tell the kids that the other teachers are crap )
Triple Post??? WTF?
keeping the one with the thumbs up and the one with the comment

How do you like it as a job? How does it compare to other teaching jobs? Will you eventually become an ielts examiner?
