Q: Can foreigners do retreats at Buddhist monasteries in China?

I know that certain monasteries accept lodgers for a small fee but I'm not sure about doing a proper retreat and immersing yourself in monastic life together with the monks, especially if you are female. I would say it's rather unlikely, but there are places that offer taichi retreats on mountains. I found this website which offers taichi retreats but I think it is taoist: http://www.healingtaoretreats.com/
GuilinRaf:
They do have some convents or "nunneries" scattered about where female foreigners may be more welcomed.
