Bringing any motor vehicle into China is possible, but not practicle since you will have to pay huge import taxes (approx. 75-100% of the motor bikes original retail price.)

I don't know about regular bikes though.  I think those would be fine as long as you could find a way to ship it here.

Price-wise, that is really impractical. You might as well just buy a cheap one here. If you plan on staying in China for a long time, sell the one you left at home.

To answer your question, yes, if you have money to throw away and lots of patience, besides depending on motorcycle.

Besides before mentioned entrance taxes, shipping charges, crating it, etc, you willm face one thing not mentioned, by law no private individual can have a motorcycle with an engine above 250 cc of displacement.  There is a way arpound this too, you can claim you are doing it for the purpose of exhibiting at local shows, but you (once the byke is here) can only look at it  and wash it, can't ride it.  It has something to do with not having an engine more powerful than armed forces or Police.
I do know one guy that imported not one but thru time he brought three into China.  He ended up selling two, and hanging the last one from the ceiling at his bar, as a conversational piece.
You will be better off ( and a lot cheaper) to built one here, I have another friend who got himself a welder and a mechanic and did so, for less than 10,000 Rmb total price.  But if Police stops you, it may be confiscated.

To import any vehicle is overly bureaucratic, complex, you need very good high level connections with the relevant authorities (guanxigang), & be prepared to pay high taxes and import duty, which can sometimes mean paying up to 100% of the vehicles (new) value etc. Basically what I'm writing is that the process of getting landed into China mainland is way too complicated to make the exercise worthwhile, although yes, it is possible and can be done. There are other issues to be considered, like the age of the vehicle etc.

Other option: disassemble and send as parts, on arrival reassemble again . or put it in a box and fill in the documents as spare parts, little risk if they would check the box due.

i send complete machines to the US and fill in the papers as parts to pay lesser import taxes there.

good luck,

PS: you still gone have problems here for a license plate and insurance, it's nice for driving with a motorbike on high speed, but what will happen when you will get a accident?
And traffic controle is driven up here, specially now that that they have launged the alcohol controle, So after all it will be not a good idea for bringing your bike here, think on your family because you will end up in jail or in a wooden box.

most big bikes are smuggled in besides the BMW / HD's as they have dealerships in PRC. lot's of big bikes are of dubious origin (stolen overseas) or assembled from different crashed bikes.

you can find all sorts of big bikes in PRC = Honda, KTM, Ducati, BMW, HD, Buell, Yamaha, Suzuki, Triumph, etc.....

Harley-Davidson has three PRC dealerships now = Shanghai, Beijing, Tsingtao.

 here is a thought
( might not be a good one)
what would happen if you imported it to a nabouring country like Russia and drove it accross the border? passport and visa in hand of course

bennyfulltrack:

That 's how most are smuggled in. But here again, it will be getting difficult as impossible to get a vehicle registration license. Especially if you are a foreigner. But as this China, it can be done!

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
