i got the temporary residence permit as i'm married to a chinese national.
I had to leave china for an emergency concerning family.
It is still valid for another 4 months.
Can I re-enter china using the temporary residence permit? Or Do i need to apply for another L visa?
Thanks!
*EDIT*
My RP does not show how many entries permitted.

You will need a visa to get in. The residence permit only allows you to stay AFTER you get the visa.

I guess it's best to ask, it'll be hard to guess. I got a family resident permit for a year with 2 entries. I took a year off to take care of my newborn baby.but laws maybe have changed now,He might want to check again

It was my experience that immigration won't let you in without a visa. I might be wrong since visa rules have changed a fair bit. And yes, it would be better to check.
Contact (HK) Chinese Embassy for detailed answer:
http://www.fmcoprc.gov.hk/eng/zgqz/bgfwxx/
or Chinese Embassy in your country.
When you entered China with your "L" visa originally and obtained you residence permit, that permit took over and works like a visa now for long as it is valid and you do have "entries" unused.
If so, then you can use it to enter China now and will not need a new visa.
TMaster:
What?! I'm lost, since when RP have entries limitations? Aren't they supposed to have only expiration dates?
ironman510:
@Tmaster, yeah family RP's have 2 entries, at least in Shenzhen, my mate, an ex-coworker worked here for years on a Family RP and he always complained about only being allowed to travel on a real vacation out the country twice a year, and because we were in Shenzhen, he always got sad if some said: "Let's go party in Hong Kong tonight" poor guy couldn't..
Working RP's are not like this as you know.
TMaster:
This is illogical. Are you sure your friend wasn't on a L visa he took for a RP ? RP's technically don't have a space to mention entries because it doesn't make sense. Residence means you can come and go as you wish, this is the difference between them and visas, all over the world.
HappyExPat:
RP does
have "entries", just like a visa. I have seen RP's of foreigners on "Z" visa with 1 or 2 entries granted and 1 year validity, to "M" entries and 2 years for "L" visa holders married to a localTMaster:
The situation you are describing is one of a visa (签证), not a Residence permit (居留许可). Spouse sponsored M-entry L Visas used to be emitted by the PSBs. Those were blue just like other RPs, but for all intents and purposes, they were visas, and it was written on top despite the color. I know this is odd, but it's true.
This is a Residence Permit : http://www.reg-corp.com/visa/sample/residence-certificate.pdf (for a spouse, the 事由 is 探亲).
Notice there is no mention of entries.
here's a backup plan. Get your wifes information and invitation letter and apply for the Q1 visa, not Q2 (too shortl
nope, you can not.. it is not a visa. it's form you need to register in local police station after you enter china
HappyExPat:
No, you are talking about the "Accomodation Registration Form for Foreign Nationals", also known as Registration form for local address by Foreigners, which is totally different from the "Temporary Residence Permit " issued by PBS
ScotsAlan:
The residence permit in my passport has "Residence permit for foreigner in the People's Republic of China" written along the top of it.
The bit of paper I got from the local police has " Registration form of temporary residence for visitors" written along the top.
The OP uses the words " temporary residence permit"
Sounds more like the bit of paper than what's in a passport.
I am with Jayz13 on this.
To the OP... Is your "residence permit" an A4 sheet of paper from the local police? Or is it a full page sticker in your passport?
You can't use the A4 sheet of paper to enter the country.
You can use the sticker in your passport, if it's valid.
It's easy to confuse the two.
ironman510:
There's an A4 sheet? When I got my family visa RP for a year, no paper, just signed a law agreement about not working and other laws. And my Family RP and like my ex-coworker we only had 2 entries.
ScotsAlan:
The A4 sheet is the police registration if you are not living in a hotel.
I mentioned this in case the OP, or indeed any random peruser got confused and mistook this for a residence permit.
It is the sticker in my passport. I have phoned probably 5 chinese visa agencies and 3 said its fine, 2 said need a new visa and 1 doesnt know.
I will call the official agency used by the embassy this morning to clear things up. Thanks for the answers.
TMaster:
If your document matches this sample (especially the 居留许可 part in the title):
http://www.reg-corp.com/visa/sample/residence-certificate.pdf
Then you're all set as long as it is not expired.
chowmein87:
I phoned them and they said for sure i dont need a new visa. THANKS GUYS FOR YOUR HELP!
ScotsAlan:
I have not used my RP to exit and enter yet.... I have not left for almost 2 years .
Good question tho .
