If i have my address registered in Hong Kong, but live and work in China can I still apply after 7 years for a Hong Kong ID?
10 years 20 weeks ago in Visa & Legalities - China
no advantage to a hong kong id anymore, you get a chinese passport now, not a hong kong passport, other than banking and financial asset security, all the other reasons to be in hong kong are gone or soon will be.
It's a difficult question, but this is my long~term goal, as we have no plans to return to the U.S after buying our house here, so Chinese passport would be fine for me.. But it's easier said then done.

my son will be 77 by that time, it doesn't matter. I'll be dead.
Just because you own property doesn't necessarily qualify you for citizenship/residency. They will most likely want to see you're contributing to society (through business or employment, as well as paying taxes).

You've got to update yourself on the new laws from last year, married for 5 years and having a house and a child here will get it done for you, my mate got his last week. You need those three things, wife, child, house, married 5 years.

Yes, but they need to be in Hong Kong or at least fulfill some minimum length of stay over a 5 year period, right? (ie. must be in Hong Kong at least 8 months a year)

I was referring to China, Not Hong Kong. I don't know much about HK stuff, only that 7 year law.
