My name's Sofia, I'm from Russia. I'm a Historian, Russian language and General knowledge teacher but I'm trying to get a job like an English language teacher. Is it possible in general or not?
Thank you for reply!

it is. i know quite a few russian teachers doing the same thing. if you don't mind kindergarten or being in a small town, it's probably your best option. only thing was that sometimes schools will object to either the accent if it's too strong or if your level of english is not good enough they will notice. a ukraininan friend of mine was moved around from school to school because they didn't like her accent. she seems ok now though. you never know till you try.
Yes it is possible. Legally less likely.
It would help if you stated where you are or where you would like to work.
You can also check out some Universities that are based on foreign languages. I know Yuexiu in Zhejiang province hires not just English teachers. They have Russian, Japanese, Arabic, etc. You won't make as much as most English teachers, but might be able to find a job in China that way.
Some schools bribe the visa officers in the PSB and get the Z visa done for you though essentially you are paying for that bribe yourself as schools will offer you a much lower salary than for a native-English speaker. I know a girl from Czech, she is all legal but she only earns 5000RMB a month teaching 20 hours, which is shit... The school will deduct some percentage of your salary each month, so instead of 7000-8000RMB a month they only pay you 5-6 thousand. I don't know if it's worth living in China and only being able to save 1-2 thousand RMB a month, you decide for yourself.
Privet! I am also from Russia, welcome to Echinacities. I met many Russian people who teach English in Shanghai. Not sure if they're officially employed or not (I guess not). I did not have any problems getting a work visa as a translator in a company back in 2013 but the visa regulations have become stricter since then. Udachi!
Hi Sofia,
Yes you can. I have some Russian friends and they have english teaching jobs in Beijing and Yanjiao, Hebei and they're salary ranges from 9000-12000rmb a month. My Ukrainian friend is only 19 and he worked at a kindergarten for a year for 7000rmb and they liked him and asked him to stay another year and he said he would for 10,000rmb and they agreed. He's not on a z visa though, they got him a business visa or something. Either way, he's happy and in Yanjiao there isn't any trouble with cops. Beijing is a bit hotter though.
Just make sure you apply to a lot of jobs and weed out the bad ones offering a low salary.
I'm sure you will find a job easily.
