Q: Can I get my cancellation letter before the end of the contract?
Hello.
I have accepted another teaching position which will be in my wife’s city. I really do not like where I am now, and my contract ends around December 27th. My Residence Permit expires January 14th.
I need the cancellation letter and want to know can I get the letter before I finish the contract with the current school and finish my two weeks there, or it cannot be given to me until the end of the contract?
The guy who I am getting this new position says everything should be done one month ahead of time, but seemingly last time I applied for my Residence Permit while my application was still being processed at the Foreign Affairs Office.

Cancellation letter? You mean, Release letter?
1. Why don't you ask your employer about RL?
2. Make your new Residence permit sponsor/employer ask your present employer for it, i.e. ... matter between Chinese.
Before the Labour law changes in 2017, Chinese Law books stated that your old employer is required to submit all documents for extension of Residence permit, i.e. changing of an employer without exiting China ... to your new employer in 30-days after your last working day.
