We're going to Thailand for Spring Festival. What's the easiest way to get a tourist visa? Do we have to go to Beijing? I heard we can get one at the Thai airport but I'm not sure. Please give me some good advice!!

What country is your passport (and your friends' passports) from? Most countries' residents can get a visa on arrival into Thailand. For US passport holders (and many other countries), a visa is not required for stays less than 30 days if arriving by air, or 15 days if arriving on land. Most likely will need to show a return ticket that proves you are not planning to stay longer than the authorized duration.
Here's a list of the countries with visa exemptions: http://dc.thaiembdc.org/consular/VISA/Exempt2.aspx
yes you can get the visa on arrival at Thailand airport..but i am sure without visa the Immigration officer will not allow you to leave china (it happened with my Chinese friend, even after getting boarding pass..the immigration officer returned him back then my friend took flight from HK and he was allowed to leave HK without visa)...
so better take HK route for your Thailand journey..
I'm from Canada, I didn't need a visa for under 30 days, my Chinese GF got hers from a travel agent. I paid extra for faster service, took days longer, sorry I did that. Her GF paid the extra and got it in 2 days. My GFs arrived late on the night we had to leave, missed the train and bus to Gz and out of HK.. We had to take a flight in the morning to Gz.
To the OP, Thailand gives visas-on-arrival to citizens of many countries. What passport do you carry?
