Q: Can i sell a business?

Myself and my wife has a school here in Nanjing. We are planing to leave China early to middle next year. It has a stable income and good students. This school is not big and can be managed by one person as it has teachers we hire during weekends.
Will we be able to sell it to a English speaking person as it wont work if its owners are Chinese only.

I am not talking about big money thinking around 1,5 months of income so we can cover the furniture and things we have here.

Hi Fritze,

As you know, any legal company must be at least 50% Chinese owned. If you are a fully accreditied licensed school with a certificate from Beijing for Foreign Studies, it should be easy to sell, but probably to someone like yourself who has a Chinese wife or really trustworthy Chinese friend. Best of luck

I'm surprised, I was under the impression that you felt China was the greatest place on Earth and you were never leaving... Wife influencing the decision? Local women often say they don;t want to go abroad until after you're married then they come up with hundreds of reasons why maybe they should move abroad.... They all want the same thing money or escape. Of course you can sell your business, how long has the school been up and running?

This is my decision, I have other matter to attend to which is more important and valuable. Yes i love China.
This school is just over 1 year in operation.
My question was can i sell it cause the wife think it cant be done, as she never saw a business sold here in China. People just close it down when they want to venture in something else.
I just like someone to buy it who can take over the students and the place. Regarding selling it... its just to get something back for the investment made here. In no ways i was thinking of making a profit. Its a good peroration for someone want to do their own thing instead of working for a boss.
The students wont like to change from this school.

Fritze, it can be done but it's a real pain, you see if it's an education facility then they will have to be qualified to run it with qualified teachers. If your business isn't under the Beijing Ministry of Education and you only have a business license than it can be easier but that would actually make your school a non legitmate educational facility.

No problem, and to be honest if you want it sold best to sell it to Chinese then. I know your concerns with your students and that Fritze is honorable. But if you would like to at least get the money you invested back, I would try and sell it to Chinese. You go to a a paralegal, not a lawyer really expensive, and get the transfer of license done. They can own the business even if they do not teach themselves. Good luck and best wishes

I wouldn't sell it to Chinese.
1stly i want someone who really care for the students, and the money i want is so small, someone can get it back within 2 months from the income.

I didnt think a foreigner could start a business in China. Not without Chinese sponsorship or something? Is that incorrect?

Regarding a school i disagree as the people here respect for what you giving to the society...

Isn't it that it is not actually legitiamately registered as an educational facility? If this is the case, the fellahs' can randomly decide to shut things down (as well as you). I'm not sure who would want to take that risk. Dealing with the fellahs' can really ruin one's day. -_-'

@Fritze, what if someone is a little bit smart and offer you to pay after 2 months as because you say the money is SOOOOOO............. smal that they can earn it from their 2 months income. Would you do it? I always need to laugh with those kind of people who telling crap on the internet.

Fritze:

No crap, as we have the prove (students income) By the way we wont plan to sell it and still be here and operate it untill June next year if it was a shit operation. You think im a scamer like you? I have dignity and respect. For your information, the school has 2 buyers, and we will decide who is best for the students and the future of this school.
