I have chronic pain, neuropathy and a bad back. These medications can not be abruptly stopped without medical consequences. Or can I bring a prescription from my doctor in USA and get filled in Hainan? I will have a layover in Beijing. Thanks for your help!

You should ask about that at the same place where you got Chinese visa, i.e. Chinese Embassy for the most reliable answer.
Your safest bet would be to travel with meds supply for the entire trip, unless your pharmacy can pinpoint the place in China, where you can get the same meds.

Thank you for your reply. I contacted the embassy here in the US but was told to contact customs at the major airport in china. However, the phones are always busy. I don't want to violate any laws so I may have to cancel the trip

I second what icnif said about bringing enough to last until you leave, along with a few copies of your doctor's prescription. Strongly recommend this.
Be aware though, if you do plan on arriving and picking up more meds in China - it can be difficult sometimes. Language barriers are the obvious problem, showing a clerk in a Chinese drugstore an American prescription might just get you a blank look. There's also the chance you'll get something different or fake if you go to the wrong place.
Not trying to be alarmist here or put you off traveling but I had a friend who arrived in China thinking he'd be able to get his psyche meds in China. He couldn't for whatever reason and it ended really badly for him.
If you have a prescription letter? Does your doctor give you a prescription letter/note so you can get your medication from the drugstore? If you take that with you to show as evidence. I’m sure a stamped/ signed letter with contact details from your doctor would be helpful too. Then it is unlikely your drugs will be confiscated unless the particular drugs you use are banned in china. You can check this online
