Q: Can I use previously authenticated degree to apply for Z-visa?

I've been out of China since October 2019. Will get a new job starting early next year (assuming Z-visa restrictions are further lifted) and I've gotten a head start on the soul draining visa process by getting a new no criminal record authenticated. But what about my previously authenticated degree? It has an authentication stamp from Chinese consulate dated July 2019. Can I just use this for my next work permit process? Or do I have to go through the entire authentication process again (school registrar authentication - county clerk notarization -  state level Secretary of State authentication - federal level Secretary of State authentication)? My college is all the way on the other side of the country and I'm not keen on having to travel there as Covid is starting to pick up again in the US.

If you've been out of China longer than 3 months you need to get a new CBC (Criminal Background Check.)

Got the new CBC. Just hoping that my already once authenticated degree is still acceptable for new work visa.

You should probably just ask the people you'll be dealing with. Questions like this often get you different answers depending on who you ask and various people's experiences. Better just to go to the source and save yourself some time and aggravation I reckon.

@icnif77: Hope you mean "points" deduction. Haven't redeemed any points in last decade, so I don't mind losing a few. But please don't deduct my "pints" as I need tham to maintain my sanity here in the US. Too afraid to go to the bar to drink (Covid breeding grounds), so I need to imbibe my pints at home.

@Stiggs: Not dealing with anyone yet as most schools are still only hiring in country. Just doing as much as I can now so when I do secure a position the whole visa process will go smoothly and expeditiously. I suspect if I do ask my future employer, they will err on the side of caution and tell me to reauthenticate my degree.

Points here are fake, so I call it 'pints'. There is nothing behind but Traditional Chinese fakery ...

I'd say, don't ask (future employer) anything. Let them tell you ...

Visa process runs smoothly? I wouldn't count on it. It's always some ... you know what I am talking about ..but, good luck!

@ Quinn.. yeah you're right, the side of caution is probably the answer you'll get.

I wouldn't think you'd need to do it again, it's not like a criminal record that can change if you get in trouble but that being said, I don't think you'll get any absolute answer here, I doubt there even is one.

One thing I found with China and visas is the rules depend on a lot of different factors. The school's guanxi, how random officials choose to interpret the rules on any given day, political drama playing out at the time - tit for tat stuff and probably lots of other things we'd never hear about. Something I heard a lot when I was manager is (paraphrasing) 'they're being dicks and making things difficult at the moment'. Sadly, your nationality could well be a factor in this.

Hope it goes smoothly mate, jia you.

A:In my personal experience, teaching certificates have varied in relevance depending on the context and location. Here's a breakdown of each aspect:a) Getting the teaching job: Teaching certificates can certainly enhance your chances of securing a teaching position, especially in formal educational settings such as schools and language institutions. Many employers prefer candidates who have undergone specific training in pedagogy and instructional techniques, which these certificates often provide. However, other factors such as experience, references, and the demand for teachers in a particular area also play significant roles in the hiring process.b) Getting a higher salary than your uncertified competitors: In some cases, holding a teaching certificate can indeed lead to a higher salary compared to uncertified competitors. Many educational institutions have structured salary scales that take into account factors such as level of education, years of experience, and additional certifications. Holding a teaching certificate may place you in a higher salary bracket or make you eligible for certain salary incentives or bonuses. However, this can vary widely depending on the specific policies of the institution or organization.c) Getting promotions: Teaching certificates can be beneficial for career advancement and securing promotions within the field of education. They demonstrate a commitment to professional development and mastery of teaching skills, which are qualities that many employers value when considering candidates for leadership positions or administrative roles. Additionally, some promotions may require specific certifications or qualifications, making holding a teaching certificate essential for advancement in certain cases.Regarding which certificate yields better results, it largely depends on the specific requirements of the job market and the educational context in which you intend to work. For example:A Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) is often highly regarded in formal school settings and can be advantageous for those seeking positions in primary or secondary education.Montessori certification is valuable for individuals interested in working in Montessori schools or implementing Montessori principles in their teaching approach.A Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) certificate is particularly relevant for those seeking to teach English to non-native speakers in international contexts or language schools.Ultimately, the best certificate for you will depend on your career goals, the specific requirements of the positions you're interested in, and the preferences of potential employers in your target job market. It's essential to research the requirements and preferences of employers in your desired field and tailor your qualifications accordingly. -- ruqaiya761
