I've been training kung fu in China for 3 years, now its time to go home to USA. I want to bring 3 of my swords back with me. I thought of just shipping but I'm told I cannot ship them. I thought about bringing them on plane in luggage compartment, but I've been told 'I cant do this either. My wife is Chinese and of course can ask these questions for me but she keeps being told I cant do this. Has anyone brought swords out of China? The swords are not antique or very expensive, they are just modern non sharp kung fu training swords. Thanks in advance for advice and help you can give me.

FedEx and UPS will do it.
Otherwise, you have to check with the airline that you plan to travel on regarding their policy on weapons in checked baggage.
I brought them on the plane (Delta) in the checked baggage. lol... yup, even the metal ones. Claim them at the "oversize baggage" area if they're too big.
I also brought competition swords by air - checked them in separately.
as the other guys said - check your airline policy
Leaving after only 3 years? That is too soon to leave Grasshopper. Are you leaving because they want to shave your head or you don't want to do the branding iron hibachi thing?

lol, I've been training in martial arts for 32 years. My Wife just wants to go back to the USA for a little while. Since her parents are here, I will eventually be coming back to live again and take care of them.
Yes, I flew Air China from Beijing to New York in November. Checked 2 or 3 Tai Ji swords in a tapestry bag and duct taped the top and bottom of it. Worked just fine:)
Thanks everyone for all the help! I will contact the airlines again. I've traveled all over the USA with swords being brought on as luggage, so I couldn't understand why my wife was getting a no answer. Maybe its just miscommunication. My Chinese language skills can use a lot of work, but her English is excellent so we get by pretty well. lol
Have been bringing back various "weapons", such as swords and never had a problem. Check with your airline.
