Q: Can one trust that acupuncture needles are sterilised in China?

When going for this procedure in China can one be confident in the needles being sterile and free from...everyhting bad? At the moment I am looking for a Chinese medicine doctor (haven't found any and don't know as to whether to give up and just go to the Chinese medicine department at one of the big hospitals), while doing this search, is it safe?

Thanks for the opinions.

This is a really, really good question.  It causes me to shiver, it actually does, because I rely upon acupuncture a great deal. I have never consulted a solo practitioner but I have always gone to the local No. 1 Chinese Traditional Medicine Hospital (I mean the newest and the cleanest one if that existed in the city where I was living or where I am living now).

In Shanghai, please only try Shuguan Hospital the Hospital of the Shanghai University of Traditional Medicine.

You did say you have been here for many years, you know China quite well. Thank you so much, I will check out this hospital, looks clean...

Yes I have come to be extra cautious around here,  I am not always thinking the worst of them but just living the reality that things aren't always what they seem around here.  It frustrates me sometimes because China really has a lot to offer, but it's the small things, that matter the most actually, that can spoil everything...like hygiene, a beautiful camera or cellphone just to discover it's a polished used one, etc
