Finding a teaching job here isn't that easy, I've got a month and more left to secure a job before my resident permit expires. Being proactive isn't something I take for granted so hence my reason for this question,.....please....any benevolent answers ......
I'm not sure you can extend your residence permit since it belongs to the company you were originally employed with. If that expires, you will need to get out and apply for a tourist visa to get back in. It helps if you are living in Guangzhou because traveling in and out wouldn't be such a chore as compared to provinces further off. I was just wondering, how is it that your previous company didn't cancel your residence permit when you left them (assuming you are not with them already)?

Even with your z visa you will still need to get your RP renewed at PSB. This can only be done through your employer. It takes 21 days to get it.
As I know, your School must get you 30 days L visa before (after) RP expiration. You should find new RP sponsor, before RP expiration.
New RP sponsor will have enough time (30 days L) to extend your RP.

This actually also depends on where you are. A friend recently asked about this in our province (Hebei) after I had mentioned the 30 days grace period. It has now been reduced to just 15 days here.
Is this a product of them not wanting us here? Who knows. But it did not leave her an awful lot of time.

I forgot, I'm extending my RP more than 2Y already. Things changed, I guess!
I don't know, if they want us or no. At my School, Chinese English teachers don't speak English. Their English level is so low, that Grade 5 teacher asked me last week: 'What does it mean 'phone number'?' I was asking her 'Can you give me Principal's ph. no., please?'
I'm convinced, for Chinese would be much better, if FT would teach and couch Chinese English teachers instead students. However, 'their face' would suffer too much, so that's 'no no'.

I tried couching a pretty Chinese teacher once. Was told I couldn't because it was her first year teaching English. I do coach Chinese teachers sometimes, but I make sure it is in private because, as you pointed out, they will loose face.

Was listening Grade 6 replacment English Chinese teacher. She took my class, and I sit in the back with students. I didn't understand anything, because she spoke Chinese whole class. After we talked, I said to her: 'Imagine I am Chinese teacher in UK. I speak whole class in English!' What students will learn from my class? They all speak English already. They want to learn Chinese.
I'm not sure, if she understood what I tried to say. I suggested to her, she should run tape through the whole class (and learning English herself during her 'lesson').
Student will learn English only, if they listen English.
In my class, she would keep translating to students my talk. It was just show off in front of the students, and interupting my work. She replied, students complained to her, they don't understand me.
We had lesson about dinos, and term 'long time ago'. I explained to students meaning of 'long time ago' with Q&A: 'When is your birthday?' and 'How old are you?'. We have lessons mostly in Past Tense, so I added: 'When were you born?'
Students understood 'long time ago' in the end of the lesson, what I checked with Q 'How long ago were you born?'.
I won't respect her 'saving face' (show off) in my class. Other Chinese teachers helped me, and told her to shutted during my lessons.
You can see stupidity of 'face' in this example. They don't think about damage done to students, because of 'saving face'.
You can get a 10 day "emergency extension" if you get a letter from a hospital, embassy, or Ministry of Foreign Affairs but there has to be a real "emergency" nit that you need a few more days to sell your belongings or get your stuff packed and moved.
