Q: Can someone answer my questions about using Skype?

Hello all,

I would appreciate your help! A Chinese woman and I want to do a language exchange through Skype.

She's in another city far from me. * Can you explain to me IN DETAIL how to do this? When I was in South Korea some time ago, I did sign up for Skype..and spoke live with a young man who worked at a school here in China.

1. What equipment specifically do we need besides a desktop computer? * Or, is a different type of computer okay?

2. Okay, and then I just need to sign in to Skype and my lady friend has to create a Skype account right?

3. And, anything else?

Thank you so much!

Step 1: Get a computer (preferably with a webcam, or a headset that has a microphone at the very least.)

Step 2: Install Skype.  If you have already setup an account before, then you can still use that username/login information.  If not, then you will need to setup a Skype account.  Setting up a Skype account is free to do.

Step 3: If you know your lady friends account name, you can add her to your contact list.

Step 4: You can then either text chat, voice chat or video/voice chat over the internet as long as both of you have an internet connection.

If your friend doesn't have Skype, then she will need to follow the same steps as listed above.

'you can search for someone's Skype name by entering person's email address to Skype search bar, and then follow up with step 3.

You just need:

1. Any kind of computer or cell phone with Skype on it

2. A microphone (is build in to most laptops/phones/tablets)

3. Speakers or a headset (speakers build in to most laptops/phones/tablets)

4. A Skype account for both participants

Then you just call each other on Skype and thats it.

It is very easy.

If both users add their phone number to Skype, call to and from anywhere in the World is just 10% cost of the real phone call price.

Call from your Skype to your friend's phone number would be just a fraction of the real phone cost. You must add some money from your CC or Debit Card to your Skype account.
I should say, you must have CC with Visa, MasterCard logo for adding funds to Skype.

You can pull out list of Countries at Skype, and individual phone call cost from your registered Country.

Im sure i read somewhere that if you download skype here you can be monitored

If you already have normal skype downloaded from your country you will be ok

i think i read it here, search for skype related questions on here and im sure you will find it

mikael84:

Download Skype from www.download.com instead, then you will have no problems.

Skype.com redirects to skype.tom.com which is the client they can monitor.

Sangoku:

Actually, since Microsoft purchased Skype, they removed the encryption of the software to allow the monitoring of conversation and of instant messaging.
