No I do t think so. And to get one in HK you would need a resident permit like a family visa. I think you have to apply in your home country if you are just on a tourist visa.

No, it can't. One must apply for Z visa at Chinese Embassy abroad ...

Furthermore, first Z visa application won't be granted at Chinese Embassy in HK, but you must travel to your home country and submit Z application at Chinese Embassy there.

If you have a residency permit in china you can get a z visa in Hong Kong

It’s possible to convert a tourist visa into a work permit & resident permit in Shanghai.

Its also possible to get a Z-visa in Hong Kong if you’ve already got a resident permit. I can confirm this from personal experience in 2015

Once, you HAVE Residence permit, you (your old or new employer) can extend it without exit from China required! Everybody knows that!

@Hot: It looks, status of Shanghai (and maybe few other cities) changed. It became similar to HK.

By my experience (and word from FEB in 2012), first Z application can/could be only applied in one's home country's Chinese Embassy.

Wolf is saying that isn't true, so I am not sure what holds ... I had to return home from Hebei in 2011 on L-visa for my first Public School sponsored Z. After that, I got Z three times in HK, also sponsored by Public Schools ...

@ isniff As always it comes down to the policy of the city you are in and the whim of the officers. There is never a definitive answer for this sort of question. You'd be better off sacrificing a chicken and doing a spot of hepatoscopy or perhaps paint yourself in chicken blood and dance around a fire, naked, to discover the mystical truth.

I got that Wolf ... however, if I would be applying for it again from China, I'd plan I'll have to return home as 'no-hope-for-HK' as cheaper version.

At few Schools I heard, School can write on Invitation letter 'HK pick-up', buTT ... that must be granted/confirmed by SAFEA with last stamp on IL.

I guess, 'requirement to return home for first Z' is connected to gathering data (Criminal and other) from one's home country police, which is most likely supplied to Chinese Embassy, before Z stamp is granted.

Who really knows 'why' ... It might be again 'no-why'

Most certainly it's a "no why" in every instance.

No, I’m talking about just a z visa resident permit. You can also use a Q or any other visa that gives you a resident permit. If you are any type of these you can apply for the z in Hong Kong, as long as all your other stuff is in order.

Dude, obviously the OP doesn't have any type of RP and only has an L. Semantics about what you can so with an RP in your particular city don't mean anything to him unless you're suggesting he quickly gets married so he can pick up a z in Honkers....lol

Years ago it was possible if the school had the right connections Nowadays, it MAY be possible, and I stress, MAY be possible to pick up your Z visa in HK.

I know it was possible in the past because I came to China for a one month holiday. Because of over a decade of service at home, I contacted my boss and he arranged a "leavecwithout pay" break for me when I met someone who offered me a job. Big name English factory sorted it out and i worked for them for 6 years. As I still have friends there i know that as recently as Spring Festival this year they did this for a Kiwi.

You need to have a residency permit in china to get a z visa in hk. I check for a friend a few months ago and you can do it for sure . You just need a family visa or a visa that grants a residency permit.

I think a better question is "Have you gotten all the doc's ready and authenticated by the Chinese embassy in your home country like your degree and Criminal background check and if in the ESL biz the TEFL or better as well?."

biggj123:

All that stuff can be done though an agent though the mail while you’re in china , and a criminal record can be done at your embassy in china.
