Q: Can you buy a heavy metals tester for water in China?

Heard that heavy metals in water is really damaging to health and that metal levels in Chinese water is way too high. Is there any kind of device you can buy to test the levels for every day use?

I think heavy metal is dangerous under any circumstances, not only in water; I personally am more of an easy listening fan, particularly the Carpenters or Simon and Garfunkel, though I do like to mix it up sometimes with a little Alanis Morisette. A simple test is to check album covers for leather-clad men with long hair, scantily dressed blondes, or any kind of lightning bolt designs.

You should be equally concerned about heavy metals in things like vegetables, fruit, meat and seafood. Remember that heavy metals stay in the food chain, so if you pork comes from a pig that was fed with things containing heavy metals, then the pig would have accumulated heavy metals.

Wonder if buying organic has any impact on that in China, just happen to have a pack of organic rice that says it is "Without Chemical Pesticides, Chemical Fertilizer, artificial coloring" does not state that it is without lead and other stuff from being grown with polluted water.

Yes, you can buy these items through www.taobao.com.

Here is the link for a heavy metals in water test that costs RMB 380.00.

isn't cheaper just buy good quality bottled water for all kitchen purposes?

I use it for all cooking procedures, including steaming.

and as Scandinavian said - You can not avoid heavy metals in food, unless You buy only imported, packed, organic, strictly tested food. But for me it is just a bit paranoid for grown person... (can be more reasonable when rising a babe).

If Chinese nationals can live and be healthy - just look what they buy and eat, and do the same. It should work (works for me).
