Q: Can you open a bank account with a tourist visa?
A friend is coming to China to travel for 6 months. He would really like to open a bank account, rather than pay every time he withdraws money. Is this possible to do?
What does he do for the address part? Right now he is staying with me but he isn't on a visitor visa (or whatever they are called).
Yes you can. Your friend should register with the local police, at your address, this will give you have document as proof of address.
This is not saying that some banks cannot have policies that doesn't allow this.
Or if all else fails (and he's a good friend), you can open an account yourself (at a bank where you haven't an account yet) and let him use that one for his time here. When he leaves, you can go to the bank and close that account...
First time I came to China on a tourist visa I opened two bank accounts and it was easy for me but the bank rep had to fill out tons of documents. They gave me a bank card and a flash drive and I was good to go. The two banks: Bank of China and Construction Bank of China.
My friend did this about two weeks ago in Kunming at Bank of China. You can fill in any address, they don't check it.
