My roots are pretty obvious now, but I'm just a bit suspicious of hair dye here. I see that they have international brands, but in China they have to adhere to Chinese laws right? So would you trust them? Or do you think I should just embrace the 50/50 look and wait until I go home?
Aren't avatars funny... All this time I thought you were male. You're female?
Yeah, clearly obvious roots don't look right, imho. Male or female. (Unless you're a film star or top model.)
To cover/hide/dye your roots, I'd recommend going to the hairdresser's. Is there a Tony & Guy, for example, in your area?
Nonetheless, I'd think the international DIY products found in China would be reputable enough, meeting int'l standards, and not leaving you bald.
When are you going home? If it's in a week, have your hair done at home.

Yep female, and nope not a film star or model so the roots have to go.
I've used the brand "Bigen" for a while and it seems okay for me. Also, brands like L'Oreal are okay. It's relatively cheap too when compared to getting your hair dyed in salons here. For a guy it would cost about RMB200 with hair cut. For a woman, it is about RMB350 upwards. Bigen costs RMB50. I suggest doing it yourself if your hairstyle isn't complicated. You don't know what they use in salons right?

Salons will most likely skimp and use an inferior product too.
I have used the L'Oreal hair products bought locally in China
recommended by a hairdresser back home as the most reliable.
I feel your "hair" pain. I am searching for a reputable hair salon to do blonde highlights. My roots are also showing and I'm concerned about walking around with orange hair etc...
When I return to the States for a few weeks I will have my hair done, but when I come back home to Hangzhou for a few months I will need touch-ups and a haircut.
