I left China last year, and I am OK. Working toward Residence permit which will allow stay and work in Turkey for one year at least. Otherwise, I am permitted to stay in Turkey 90-days (Schengen passport) without applying anywhere.

However, I can't rent an apartment without 'Permit to Stay' as RP is called in Turkey-stan.

I am into the 4th month in the city without exiting after 90-days, 'cause 'Internal Police Interview Invitation  ' (on 09/11!) permits I remain in Turkey and wait for the meeting at coppery.

Work wise, I don't see myself out&away from the students. Am part-timing at 3 mills and 2 Co's and I am keep getting requests for more classes.

All English teaching in Turkey heavily depends on student's comments and satisfaction with the teacher, just so you'll  know with whom  you are commu- -nicating here.

I would unselfishly transfer some of me students to the well educated  Native English teacher with properly authenticated passport from UK, Ozz and others ...., i.e. 'Mandatory-Native-English-Passport-Undertaking-Requirement' ...

I have to tell you, USA passport is in crosshairs with Erdo-gun 'cause 'cee-eii-aii' sponsored unsuccessful putsch against Erdo in 2016. Vlad alerted Erdo .... just after Erdo shot down Ruski MiG in Turkish/Syrian air space by ZATO orders.

Vlad&Erdo are big buddies in Syria ... LOLOLOL ... and US Military base in Inclirk near-by Adana runs on generators 'cause Erdo disconnected electricity. Have a look at the search engines. Inclirk 'news' is for real!

I read yesterday, Chinese are preparing to send big contingent of ground troops to Syria ... 'cause so many Uyghurs fight against Assad ... i.e. ''Neo-s-cons will get their arse handed to them ... by Vlad&Xi ... & Ayatolahs, too!", buTT ... I told you that once ... already!

Don't you get a permit to stay when you accept a job there?

icnif77:

No, you can work in Turkey as part-time or full time Contract or ... you can just work... I can stay 90-days and work. I must have WP for work, but nobody bothers in the beginning. Send CV files and get job ... No other special documents required. I can't rent an apartment (get water and electricity running) or open bank account without Permit to Stay.

One joint offered both Contracts after a week of classes, and I accepted part-time 'cause full time Contract required 40 hours/week.

After I sign it, they applied for WP and Permit to Stay which fees I must cover. I am looking into around 300 EUR expense for that.

Other 2 joints are special: one is English teaching boutique, where I work only with private students. They have School in Miami and owner is Turkish Canadian. The third mill, just call me and pay honestly all completed classes.

Both mills (except 'boutique') are 'chains' with Schools around Turkey.

At Private Public Schools ('1-12' Grade, High School), i.e. Colleges, Contracts are with housing, but as it looks only Native English teacher qualify. I didn't get too many replies, so I am guessing reason must be my passport.

'add-it': By Turkish law, foreigners cannot work in Public (Governmental) Schools. Foreigners can be employed only in private ownership Schools. Training mills or Private Public Schools, i.e. Privately owned Primary and Secondary Schools, Colleges and Universities. These sort of schools are 'Schools with better education than Public Gov. Schools' as they are termed among Turkish residents, i.e. 'Top-shelf Schools'.

I will get 1-year Permit to Stay after meeting with cops in September. Now, I am past due 90-days exit, because I have 'Interview at Cops Invitation'. I am allowed to stay in Turkey till meeting with cops.

I got offer from Private Medical College to work with students. Private student, I work with in 'Boutique' offered part-time classes there ... he he. She's 'Dr. Professor ...'.

It's August, holidays month, but I am working in vicinity of 25 hours/classes weekly.

Yes, Turkey is indeed a bit different zone.

Around Aug. 18th, we have another week-of-praying holidays, and I am hitting Gaziantep and Gobekli Tepe (in Turkish 'Big belly') on Syrian border. Of course, I'll travel by bus ...surprise

What happens after your police interview and you haven't got your WP sorted?

Is 'hi' so negative 'cause of all Chinese RP rules? he he. Turkey is different.

I must exit Turkey and re-enter it again for another 90-days stay, but my WP is also in progress, so I am not expecting any hard time at Police interview on 9/11.

Mill's representative will come with me to coppery.

I wanted to say, you can come to Turkey and work despite you don't have WP. It just depends how long your passport permits you can stay in.

There are not many Native English teachers around and Gov. doesn't bother mills with WPs. Most of English teachers here are Turkish or Iranians, Syrians too, with not too much accented English.

Permit to Stay is the most important document as I understand.

Would you say you prefer it there or China? I know the money is better in China, was thinking more of the quality of life.

I wrote lengthy reply on quality of life, but it disappeared. Let me try again ... wait.

Istanbul is EU city with mosques and 5-times-yelling during the day. All sausages are filled with ground beef&spices, no pork. There isn't any pork around, so your (mine) CH must be low. You can buy imported alcohol in Supers for high price. Best and cheapest coffee is Turkish coffee with coffee residue in the cup, but 1/2 price of espresso i.e. filter coffee. Living standard in the city is 'EU prices with lower than EU wages', however most of the people in the city don't look poor.

Where ever I turn here, there is a hill. I hate walking up or even down the hill. Hills here are at 45* degrees ... Sometimes feels like I am Nepal except hills here are asphalt paved. Currently is +30*C ...

Public transportation around the city is fast&crowded with underground and thingy called 'Metro Bus'. You can come to any part of Istanbul by using Metro-bus which has special road/lane on the highways all around Istanbul. One way ride 2.6 TRY with Metro card.

You could come to Turkey just for visit and look around. Knock door to door at Training mills and one will sponsor your Permit to Stay (RP) and WP. You aren't required to exit Turkey to get WP and RP same as in China. Here you can also apply for 1-y Permit to Stay by yourself, without sponsor. I am not sure how that works 'cause mill offered to complete application for Permit to Stay, but it is possible to get it by yourself, too. Interview at Cops and 1-year Permit to Stay stamp follows. No exit required!

Turk employers don't bullshit like Chinese like to do. Whatever classes I completed, I got paid by agreed rate, and sometimes when student is happy, I even get higher pay. I suffer a bit 'cause no decent apartment at the moment, butT ... I can't really compare 'cause I was sick of China after 8 years of living and constantly arguing with employers. China was better than UK, EU or USA and here I am just new, so I am looking forward ...

I still eat with chopsticks in my home ...

Turkish Lawyers Want To Raid Incirlik Air Base, Arrest US Troops For Terrorist Ties

[ZH: As a reminder, Incirlik is a central hub for US air power in the region and the resting place of a few dozen B-61 nuclear gravity bombs with adjustable yields. Though the bombs are securely confined to the US-controlled side of the base, regularly maintained and looked after, and at little risk of falling into enemy hands, experts have long questioned the wisdom of holding US nuclear weapons in Turkey.]

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
