Q: Can't join the army because you used a pawn shop?
My Girlfriend's, Mum's, Sister's, Son wanted to join the army but was told he couldn't as he had previously used a pawn shop to sell some of his items.
Does this make sense to you? I can't find any reason why these two things are connected.
What are your ideas?
It honestly seems so alien to me, "I'm sorry, you can't fight for your country because 5 years ago you sold your T-shirt to a charity shop, sorry..."

That's odd. Maybe pawn shops here equate to 'fencers of stolen goods'. They certainly have something of that reputation back home.
Maybe it was because he sold stolen Chinese military equipment.
You sure they didn't mean porn shop? And rather than used perhaps ran?
