China pretty bad for cars in tier one, but that's pretty much the same case for any major city in the world. Driving is more of a burden than it does to help you. New York, London, Tokyo, Shanghai even Toronto which in comparison is not that huge of a city its still a cluster fuck. The cost of driving in big cities in China is rediculous though... I use to drive in Hangzhou a lot and the driving was pretty bad but the thing I hated the most was the parking. It's so hard to find parking. After awhile I stoped driving anywhere that was in a 10km radius. The parking was sometimes just as much as the didi drive was. It's just not worth it. I live in a small town now and driving is great here. You still got the idiots on the road but parking in no problem and it never stuck in traffic.

There is saturation in the car market in China, there are just so many foreign and domestic its hard to compete.

I can't stress enough how bad of an idea it is to buy a car if you are living in tier-1. These days with the mass transit system going almost everywhere and DiDi drivers to go to the rares places the subway or buses don't go, there just isn't any point in having your own car. You'll feel the pain if you ever tried to find a parking spot on a Sunday in and around malls, finding a parking spot can take as much time as driving there in the first place. You're much better off using DiDi drivers, they charge per distance, so traffic jams or not it's the same price.
