Q: CCTV News, "watch us on YouTube or catch up on Facebook and Twitter". WTF?

Has anyone else noticed how on CCTV News: Africa Today they keep mentioning about commenting and catching up on social media that is unavailable in China.

There is also a regular scrolling text along the bottom of the screen advertising their YouTube channel and Twitter/Facebook pages.

Are they sadists?

It's all about discursive power.

Imagine if CCTV keeps mentioning "please visit www.echinacities.com for real and detailed information, personal experience and perspectives in China".

Or they let the 100 million Chinese people who live on less than 1 US dollar one person a  day, which by UN definition is "absolute poverty", have Facebook ,youtube and twitter to display their life to the world, and tell not only Africa but also EU and America what they want to say.

Is China rich? Prosperous? Promising? Getting stronger? Becoming a threat?

The Africa Today program is on every weekday at around 6pm on CCTV's English channel.

If you catch it tomorrow I'm sure it will show the same information.

Quite bizarre!

It's because CCTV is also aired in "another country".

A:I'll give my two cents on the age part. It's not as easy but can definitely be done. I was 21, fresh out of university and landed my first teaching job in china as a homeroom kindergarten teacher on a pretty standard 20,000/month salary. I'm 1 year in now and am still happy. Pretty much all international kindergarten jobs on here want 2 years experience, but many will still accept if you have experience in your home country. With that being said, being white and having a nice looking face is much more of a decision factor in china vs the west, if you can- use it to your advantage. Good luck finding something! -- brinsleym
