Not necessarily. A CELTA or TESOL isn’t a must for every teaching job in China. A lot depends on your degree, teaching experience, and the requirements for the particular position. Having a TEFL/TESOL/CELTA can definitely help, though, especially if you don’t have much teaching experience.
Also keep in mind that what a school requires and what you need for the work permit aren’t always the same thing. Some schools will ask for a teaching certificate even when it’s not a legal requirement. So it’s best to look at the requirements for the specific job and province and not assume the same rules apply across China.
