Tell "your friend" that the cheapest way i know is to cross at either futian or louhu then take the train one stop at shang shui and catch a bus wherever.

I have heard of buses that go across or walking across at huanggang but i havent dont it so i wouldnt know the price.

Have fun in HK!

Shenzhen bay if your friend just needs an exit/entry chop. Walk across and walk back.

My mate goes to Korea.  Jumps off one plane and hops on the next one back.  Once he didn't have any money and had to stay there for three days.

In the past HK was inexpensive, quick and easy.  Used agent  foreverbright, did terrific job. Day and half and done.

Xiamen to Jinmen island (Taiwanese territory) by ferry...  only takes about 30-45 mins each way (though you might have to wait for a return ferry). Price was a few hundred RMB... but you get a nice boat ride in the bay!
