Q: Cheap(ish) student housing in Wudaokou area?

A friend of mine is going to school at Tsinghua this fall and is currently looking for an apartment in the Wudaokou area.

He asked me to help him find a cheap apartment somewhere in the area, but its been several years since I've lived there.

Does anybody know what the current going rates are for studio apartments or 2-br shared apartments? Also what areas are good to live in? I only know of the Dongwangzhuang neighborhood (东王庄小区).

Any help would be much appreciated!

Last time I checked, it's about 3000 for one room, and 5000-6000 for two rooms.

The prices skyrocketed these past few years, you'll never be able to find a really cheap one.

Almost any residence in wudaokou is nice, but my best advice is to try to find one where students seem to be (because they usually are fit for newcomers - or students in general).

Thanks for your responses.

Follow up: Is it worthwhile looking a subway stop away out in Shangdi, or is that area not great for housing?

Usually, being close to a subway station means paying a lot more....
