It's a good pace to live but not one of the best, no. It is the best place to live if you are thinking of sex, food and a cheap cost of living, but in all other areas it quickly goes down a slippery slope! Healthcare, cleanliness/sanitation, food and merchandise quality, automobile prices, dealing with the locals at times can be a test for anyone (constantly being ripped off, used or people having some kind of angle, nose picking, etc...), "cultural" if that's what we want to call them "differences", the government (corruption, controlling, etc..) Police (having to register, passports, Visa's), to name a few things. Having said this if you can create your own environment get all the sex you can handle and make over 15000 a month, China is a great place to live, but not the best, not in the top 20... But a great place.

GODENDEFAISSE YOU ARE BACK

I can't tell you how much I missed you, man! You are, seriously, the most talented troll I've ever seen, and your piercing stare makes me a bit moist to tell you the truth.

I hope this is one of those threads like "Greatest China, what is?" where you wait for someone you think is American to play along with you and say something good about China, and then insult them. Seriously. Intellectual checkmate.

Anyway, no, obviously, if China was the best, people wouldn't be leaving in boatloads. Also, constantly having to assert your national pride is a pretty good indicator of how crappy your country is. No one wants to say "I'm from a shitty country" so instead they just get all psycho and patriotic and willfully blind.

Just some... food for thought.....

in 2010, there was an estimated 1.9 MILLION ILLEGAL immigrants from China in America... this does not include those who migrated legally (with the proper paperwork).

That is just in America. How many have gone to Europe, Australia, other Asian countries, etc.

On the other hand, the Shanghai newspaper reports at the end of 2010, there was a total of 593,000 foreigners (Americans, Australians, Europeans and all other countries in the world) living in China.

Just sayin....

It's an interesting place but definitely not in the top 10. Judging by godedenfaisse's comments on other questions, he's so ignorant he'd still think China was #1 if millions of people were starving to death in the streets like North Korea. In fact, I'm fairly certain that no normal person is this ignorant, I call troll on this guy. He's just trying to rile up the foreigners. Tongue

Njord:

Isn't North Korea a direct result thanks to China? If they minded their own business there wouldn't be a North Korea, only 1 prosperous Korea, but no now we have the western supported free, democratic and prosperous Korea and the other, starving, autocratic miserable Korea... Good job China....

American women are independent which makes them more fun , american men can go around the world and pull women, (chinese men have a horrible reputation around the world which is why they need to be truely wealthy) chinese women more and more look for men outside of china even to other asian countries.
america has great sports , entertainment which is why our athletes are more popular here than local athletes, american movies and music are more popular here than local ones.

God: this is why it is good to know stuff you cant say it is good for the govt to control what you know then knock someone else for giving good info. just about all these countries have free universal healthcare many offer free education through college. which is why in didnt include my usa in the mix (speak the truth not nationalist propaganda)

Germany has the best political system and open culture and is very safe, and consider this, germany has been re united for just a short 20 years and they are always in the top 4 when it comes to economies, they are the most brilliant minds which is why china contracted their maglav train to use all over china (china couldnt figure it out to copy it)
netherlands: great political system open culture and quality of life
swiss: peaceful country fgreat political system people do for their govt as the govt does for them, great minds their watches are the best around the world
canada: i visited there great people
norway, sweden, ireland are always voted the top places to live, but your govt would not let you know that. not from wiki from a life long search for info unrestricted. and talking to people i meet from across the world we speak the truth (good and bad) when anyone says their govt is perfect you know they are a moron and immediately that discredits everything they will ever say

i forgot to mention france , france has the worlds best workers rights policies
5 week vacation. when the story of a french civil servant who was killed while vacationing in asia came out, many americans could not believe she could afford such a long vacation and that completely blurred the actual story

england has one of the best quality of life standards in the world i read an article recently where they were considering mandatory wifi for everyone as they have mandatory in home tele service

china has no uni healthcare if you cant pay you cant get treated, also the govt banns many cancer patients from getting treatment because they do not want the stats to leaks out about the results of pollution so these people are forced to die and suffer in these cancer towns
but you agree with that policy too . your own countrymen forced to suffer and die without any treatment because the govt wants to keep the fact that they exist a secret you are a despicable human being for even making light of situations like that

China is amazing and I've loved living here for the past year and a half, but I don't think it's the best country to live in. There are great things about living in China: the food, friendly people, its relatively cheap, fairly safe, etc. There are also not so good things about living here: too many people, crazy drivers, awful pollution, lower standard of living, etc.

Most foreigners wouldn't choose to live in China unless they liked it to some extent, but I don't think they would say it's the best place to live.

I too love spending the time I do in China, but if I was forced to make a decision between China and Australia in which to live permanently the choice would not even be close. Why, well lets talk about

1) Freedom of expression, movement, thought, information. Winner Australia not even close.
2) Environment. Clean water for both drinking and swimming, clean air, food security free from bacteria and chemicals etc. Winner Australia not even close.
3) Education Winner Australia a little closer but still by a clear margin.
4) Health care. Winner Australia not even close.
5) Safety/security. Winner Australia not even close.
6) Something really important to me. Honesty of Police Government judiciary and impartial open treatment for all. Winner Australia China not even on the same planet,
7) Food. Taste cost variety Winner China not even close
8) Cost of living China by a fair margin but the margin is narrowing.
9) Sports/entertainment etc. Winner Australia by a small margin
10) Exitement/ variety a sort of intangeable that i guess is influence by a certain familiarity with where one has lived their whole life. Winner China by a bit.

So I have listed 10 of the more important things that have led me to my answer and as you can see Australia wins by a very large margin.

So do I still like China. Yes. Is it the best country to live in. You would have to be delusional to say yes to that.
By the way I have many Chinese friends in Australia and all agree that Australia is an increadible country in which to live and I am probably biased by I would have to agree. We are indeed a very lucky country.

HugAPanda:

I love Australia. I wish I could go there to teach English (haha)... but I wouldn't want to change the accents at all. (swoon)

I think China is one of the best countries to live if you have money.

Njord:

Don;t get out much huh? If I had money I could think of many other places that would be WAY better than China... BUT... If you have little money it's a great place to live as your money goes a long way here... Dude you must be thick... Even the wealthy Chinese want to leave... You would come here? You know...I thought about it. Why does everyone love America so much? Because of our media. Our movies, oyu music, our language...it's popular everywhere. That's why everyone loves the US, because they see the happy rainbow sugarland from Hollywood. They want to believe that America truly is the land of the free and the brave, it's their dream. So China, if you want people to like you, put out better quality movies, music, or some other pop culture item that people will like. Japan has anime, France and Italy have food, Korea has pop music. Yes, China has kung fu movies, but that's not popular enough. Honestly, you need to pick up the pace and think of something better. Without these types of distractions, people see all the horrible things instead.

I think China is great, I feel safer here, people don't get drunk on friday nights and want to fight. Actually if you think about it most shops sell alcohol but you don't have drunks hanging around molesting people. Sure some things are so good but to me saftey is paramount!

woody:

I agree Alex66. I dont know why but I also feel very safe in China. If people were drinking as much Chinese wine in Australia as they do on a night out for dinner in China I would expect to see a lot more drunks fighting. Most drunks look like happy drunks to me.

I think Njord hit this one on the head.

China's great in certain respects and for some specific aspects, but don't ask for too much. You live well on your expat salary, but go back home and you have nothing. Insurance, pension, sanity and cleanliness of the environment are not yours.

I think the way it really boils down to is: China's great for a few years when you're young. If you have a family, or after a certain delay, it's just a much safer and healthier bet to just live in North America or Europe.

China's great short term.

I loved my time in China. I like the ''rustic'' appearance of most of it. In North America we call it slums tho. Things I hated were 1) toilets, 2)traffic, need some road rules. 3) scammers, 4)road and sidewalk surfaces need work, 5) the housing cost, 6) the stink, 7)I like orange peko tea better, 8)no pensions, 9)the list goes on.
what I did like was the sun, the women, the women, the food was alright. I could tell cops to eat *** while smiling because they were bothering me and they tinbodong.

Eh, whether or not China is a good place to live depends way to heavily on your personality type and income level. That alone should take it out of the top 20.
