Q: China is brilliant with regards to the clock, agree or not?

daylight savings time sucks .... but now I am happy, on the same time as back home, just am, pm is different.

does all of China on the same time make sense to you?

sometimes I have to deal with Toronto, Eastern time, sometimes Vancouver, Pacific time.... why in the hell don't they get their acts together and give my simple mind a break.

I think all North America should be on Pacific time, make it easier for me.

Haha i deal with both eastern and pacific time too. Although i vote for Eastern instead. Simpler math. I enjoy the AM/PM switch.

lol...  yeah,, but it must be weird for the guys in Urumuqi!   seriously though, even if some ways having one time-zone is easier, in reality (science wise) it doesn't make much sense.  or does it?  I'm no Timeologist.  surprise

I've heard that Xinjiang has Beijing time where govt departments probably operate, and  Xinjiang time, Xinjiang time being the actual real time, where the sun is over your head at lunchtime. I'm not sure if that's true though and am too lazy to google it.

I know which one I'd prefer.

look at this ....  should be half as many time zones nowadays ....  not 2 hour daylight savings, like some people want.

I enjoyed sunrise at 5:30am and sunset at 5:30pm in Sichuan.

Oh and shops only opening at 9-10am. Chengdu is such a dead city between 6 and 9am, sun is up but everything is closed.

Moon is high up in the sky, but it's only 8pm

ScotsAlan:

I miss the late sunsets of northern lattitudes. Down south in the tropics it gets a bit tedious with summer sunset only being an hour different from winter sunset.

another topic... and I will be happy to opinionate on north/south soon.....  time is about east/west for the most part.

just a little insight.... Guangdong, south China, is much better than inner Mongolia, same like Sicily is better than Scotland or Florida is better than Alaska.

regardless of time zones, it would be nice if the phone companies updated all cell phones with the correct time, setting the time on a cell phone is something i really was surprised about when i arrived here 5 years ago, they can print a bill with calls and times but they cant set your phone to current time like they do all phones in the west, and of course all the damn phones in the west are made here anyway and the cell phone towers are copies of the west, what is the excuse they give for not putting the correct time on all cell phones.

China decreeing the one time zone from east to west equals retardation.  Or, more accurately, bastardisation.

FYI,  it doesn't get dark until after 11 and it doesn't get light until after 10.  Spastics.

That said, I was in Kashgar last week and they 100% operate on Xinjiang time.  But...no one in Kashgar speaks Chinese......Heheheheh.  Wink wink, know what I mean......

Urumqi and my city, Karamay, operate on Beijing time.  Hence everything here is fukd up.

Only a mature country can accept different time zones.  And an even more mature one daylight saving.

Don't start me on how spasticized Queensland is!

A:No, it's not allowed to work under RP at 2nd job! I'd say, Z visa/RP sponsor can have an objections to your part-time job. I did the same at my English teaching in China and elsewhere, butT ... I casually mentioned at my prime job, some kindergarten or another school asked me to work with them part-time. Then, my Q: "Is that permitted?" ...  Answer from RP sponsor was always "Yes, but you can't be late or miss the classes at our school ..." with my reply: "No, our work schedule has a priority, and I'll arrange classes at kindergarten only in my free time." When I cleared that, I was undertaking any extra teaching hours at other schools and private students in my free time.Sometimes, teachers at my prime job asked me if I'm willing to have some extra classes elsewhere.I accepted after the talk with School's principal. I suggest, you test the felling at your Z/RP sponsor and once you see they don't object, you can work at 2nd job. Keeping your 2nd job as a secret from your employer won't work, 'cause you're laowai and Chinese know exactly what you do in your free time. However, despite your employer's agreement for extra work, you are still in violation of Chinese Labour law, and even if your sponsor agrees to your extra work, you can still get in trouble, because it's clearly written (somewhere ... ) that under Z/WP, one can work only at the Z-sponsor and nowhere else. Penalties ... I'd say, there won't be any warnings and you'll be required to exit China in short Exit time.It never happened to me, so I can't really advice how is when manure hits the fan ...  -- icnif77
