Q: China finds MH370 ... great math or luck?
I'm sure none of us argue that the Chinese have learned math and science extremely well over the past 30 years.
But we must not forget !!
The main issue going on is that Chinese pingers are too small for most black boxes.
And I really wish CNN and BBC would quit saying it was China that reported this without making sure it was true/believable. It was a Chinese journalist, on board the boat....I'm sure, seizing the opportunity for a "scoop" as all western journalists work their whole careers for. But this guy, better hope it bears some fruit!!!
Finding the black box is a matter of luck in a vast ocean. It just so happens that a Chinese ship found the signal. A second signal was also detected. It could well be any other ship. Main thing now is to ascertain that the signal is really from the plane. The world awaits with abated breathe!

The pings discovered might or might not be from MH370, it's too early to tell. And however discovers the wreckage, most of the credit should go to British Inmarasat, who managed, through an amazing application of science to first decided on two tracks, narrow it down to one track, and then pointing out the most likely position.
The Chinese haven't added anything to the search except for pictures of floating garbage and whipping up nationalist sentiments at home.
the big thing is .....Chinese could send a million junks and 10 million people to look ... no big deal ...just go look ... how serious are hey?

Whatever, I hope the plane is located by now. I give you a reward for this stupid point making strategy. Are you happy with that? Hail great British for doing excellent job? Happy, NO, Ok China sucks for being able to find something your MIGHTY couldn't. I am sure you will be dancing for that....

@jan: I didn't deny the efforts Australia, US, UK and other countries have made while searching the plane and I highly regard their help on humanitarian bases to relocate the missing plane. I do not doubt the ability of Inmarasat for its one of finest equipment.
I just don't understand the relation of the reporter with the China's ping response. The OP seems very much annoyed over the report so I satirized him for how could he be so sure of the Chinese reporter get away with it until anyone else could?
Do you think questions like that make any sense? i-e As anyone else sick and tired of MH370 ? What if the passengers of MH370 were meant to be food for aliens? Isn't it something very immoral for civilized people to make fun over human lives? I don't know why they are so stubborn in bullying others for tiny holes while they have thousands of punctures? Why should we mix the spice of our grudge while criticizing the negative aspects of a society?

fidu, the 'pings' Chinese ships located were apparently mistaken and the apparently genuine transmissions came from a different area by hundreds of miles. In any case, it makes no difference who picks up signals, or who finds the damned plane, the important things are giving the relatives some peace of mind and the international co-operation involved in doing so. Any attempt at cheap point-scoring, by anyone, is unspeakably distasteful.

I agrre with you and my point was the same that whoever find the plane is not important but the mystery of the plane and 239 human beings is unfolded. As I earlier said Australian Government is doing a great job by leading the search. Even if China failed there were helping hands to extend assistance which is a positive sign for all of us. I hope you get my point cleared.

Woo hoo Kudos China, you won a game no one was playing. You know we thought this was about human lives. And yeah many countries helped despite the fact they weren't even concerned. Yeah, I know, silly them right.

Australian report on teli, they located black box, and spotted objects in the sea. Final place.
Meh, it's a team job, really, there are many boats and planes looking around. One is bound to find before the other. And that's it, the rest is baseless speculation. I hope they found what they think they found, so that the families get more information.
New York Times has a nice article about China's effort doing more to slow down the finding of the plane than to speed it up. E.g. the first pings discovered (600 km from where pings were later confirmed) satellite images of garbage in the ocean.
