Q: Is China Really A Safe Place For Foreigners To Live And Work?
We all know that for one or two murders or rapes of foreigners that are well concealed (like foreign teacher Darren Russell) violent crime in China is almost non-existent. Yeah, we have to deal with pick-pockets, scams, and bicycle theft, but we will never really get mugged or car-jacked here. But, considering all the water and air pollution, and now the hepatitis outbreak, is China really a healthy, safe, place to be?
Here is the difference between china and my own country. Here in China if someone argues you will immediately see a large crowd gathering around to see what happening. In my own country if you hear or see someone arguing you are getting on the other side of the road and walking away from them as fast as you can. So to me it is safer!!

China is a fairly safe place due to low crime rates. They do have problems with petty crimes like bicycle theft and pick-pockets on the subway, but not much violent crimes. Health wise... well this is where you take a big risk from the air and water pollution. Living in Beijing during the winter months is like smoking two packs of cigarettes a day. And then there are the endless scams and identity thefts. So while you may be safe from muggers and rapists, your health and wallet always remain at risk in China.
Healthy? No. Safe? Not if you don't keep your mouth shut.
