She'll have a lot of documents to give for an application, but once she has them the actual application is quite rapid. I know someone who got hers in just under a week.

You'll probably have to give your passport info, residence info, invitation letter, etc etc etc. and she'll have to give a whole lot more, but again, it doesn't take 2 months.

Another good thing is she won't need to buy her plane ticket before giving in her application. Some countries actually require you to buy the ticket before handing in your application.

All Canadians I know who have had GF's and wanted to take them to Canada for a visit (three to four weeks) with plans to return to China were denied the visa.  As I heard them say, it was about impossible to convince officials at the Canadian Embassy that their GF's were bonafide tourists.

In fact, I do know of one case where after being denied the equivalent of a tourist visa into Canada, the male requested a wife's visa to immigrate, and that one was granted, and they use it to visit as original planned.  But he was a very strong headed person.

The rumor mill claims that for the GF to get a visa, she must be employed at the same place for a few years, must have real estate here in China, a substantial savings account (maybe over 1/4 million Rmb in it), have inmediate family staying behind in China (like parents, son or daughter, etc).  In fact, another rumor I heard is that most officials at the Canadian Embassy do speak French among themselves, whatever that means.

But, if you do not try, you will never know.  So, I suggest you focus your presentation on the fact that it will be a short visit, and a return to China will happen.  Maybe if done that way you may have a better chance of getting it.

A Canadian friend from Vancouver told me another suggestion.  Find a tour of Canada from China.  Talk to tour operators, explain to them what you wish to do while in Canada, and see if for the right amount of money, they will allow your GF to travel with them to Canada, and once there you and her leave tour to do your own thing, and meet them in time to return back to China.  He claims that was the way he managed to get his GF to vist Canada for a short period of time.  It seems tour operators do get visas rather easily and quick.

Ted, it's possible, but difficult, she has to have ties here. A house, a job, a letter from an employer saying when she is to return, round trip tickets financial stability, a letter from your employer, proof that you have been together longer than a few days.

The best way is through a tourist group as mentioned above. If she obeys the laws and doesn't over stay her visa all other visas will be a breeze. Opposed to what was stated above, it takes time, still about 2 months and they will still  have to do a face to face interview.

The resent article in the Canadian News should show why this is becoming more difficult. Woman was with a Canadian for 3 years as a GF, he finally gets her the visa to meet the family and she ditches him 2 days before it was time for her return. 

You will definitely have a difficult time getting you gf into Canada as a tourist unless she has family already in Canada. But if that is so, why would you have to help her? Canada Immigration is concerned about your real intentions.  I married a Chinese woman and we applied for a tourist visa 6 months later.  We went to the interview, they said they were not convinced we were really married and that she may not return to China.  But they did tell us to apply for immigration under the Family status. That's when the work began. There are as many stories to this question as there are people who will answer the question.  The Immigration laws in Cda. change too.  There are tourist groups as mentioned above for your gf but last I heard is that you give the tourist group 50,000 RMB as a security deposit. It took us 2 years to get a Maple card for my wife.  But it is worth it.

I'm sorry but I will have to agree with the members who suggest you will not be able to attain a visitors visa for your girlfriend. It is very unlikely unless she owns her own home and business and can demonstrate huge losses should she fail to return to China after her visa might expire.

           On the bright side, you make be able to get a rejection after just 2-3 weeks. 

*And sorry, it won't help to assure them you have full financial reponsibility. If anything, it just makes them more concerned she can live freely in Canada without needing money of her own. 

Sorry to bear the bad news. Even still, it may be worth a try. Why not? You may be the lucky one to get a visitor visa!

I've mailed off the visa application, I'll wait for the yes or no. I wanted this done months ago. If they say no, then it's no, but if they do say yes, we would have lost that oportunity by not applying. i applied for the 10 year multi-entry.

I am also trying to get information about taking my GF, next year. I searched for all options, even marrying her and to go there.

I googled and there are many forums discussing about it.

One option: to apply for temporary visitor visa with all necessary documents (including marriage certificates). They may provide the visa with one conditions. She can stay there up to three months (i guess) and then need to apply again. She won't get PR status until and unless she will stay with me for 3 years.

IF the visa is denied, then I have to be in Canada and apply from there with all documents (as mentioned before). In that case, she doesn't need to show any money or property. I also don't need to show substantial amount.

However, my GF says that she is happy here and doesn't wish to go there. I told her that we can return once she will finish MBA or any Masters degree in Finance or Economics. Now, she is little bit positive.
