Q: Is China's love affair with Apple ending?

Been hearing about the subdued lines for the iPad mini which was recently released (reviews abroad were pretty mixed too).

Been seeing more and more Samsung devices on the subway (in Beijing anyway).

Been reading about how Apple's limited product lineup and release schedule is hurting its growth here.

Is the Apple fanaticism finally dying down where you are or is it just as crazy as before?

Still everyone is crazy for iPhone as a status item, but many others also find out, that Samsung is simple better and cheaper the iSh*t Smile

Thats good.

Also Apple have started producing in other places than China, contracts with Samsung are going slowly down and changing suppliers. Will be interesting, where will be Apple company after 1 year ...

HTCs are much much sexier than Samsungs...design & body material wise...I'm sure performance is not any worse, have no complaints whatsoever about the one I've been using...

I was on the D train today from Harbin to Beijing.  Mind you I was siting in the first class coach (only because economy had sold out) but so, so many people were using iPhones, and iPads and the like.

No, I don't think that Apple is going under in China.  The country is going up economically speaking, it is upwardly mobile, and if nothing else, Apple is taken as a sign of social mobility.

Apple's biggest market at present is China and I read some staggering numbers about the total number of iPads and iPhones that they have sold here over the past year.

Samsung is great but Apple is  the Mercedes Benz and Samsung is the Cadillac.

Who the hell wouldn't prefer a Cadillac? It's the Cadillac of cars.

I mean, seriously? Would you head on down to the Mercedes-Benz ranch? Would you love a girl for her pink Mercedes-Benz? Would you call an unfaithful lady a "little red Mercedes-Benz" because she's much too fast?

Apple products are popular everywhere. Their designs, feel and products are top notch. Samsung is more common in China, but probably due to price. Apple products hold their value more than anything else. A used iPhone is worth 75%, a used HTC or Sam etc is 50 to 25%.

I wouldn't buy any Apple product in China,  if anything, buy Apple product made in the USA and then bring over to China, the China Apple product are so inferior to USA made. They are junk , trust me, they will break down in half the time a USA Apple product will.

but perhaps they have an 'export' line and a 'domestic' line ? I dunno, I have just heard that some products do that. or maybe he is referring to knock-off iPhones here in China ? I can tell u from my experience here, having known hundreds of young people (teens - 20's), they have the lust for those iPhones/iPads. why? something to do with Status.... I've never owned an iPhone,,, but I bought an iPad2 on a whim (in HK of course) and ABSOLUTELY Love the thing !!

Dear Tang..

There are two categories of computing and mobile phone devices in the World:

Category 1- Apple

Category 2 - Other than Apple.

So you can not compare any other devices with Apple..

After all

"APPLE CAN BE COMPARED WITH APPLE ONLY"

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change student visa to labourer one is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
