Q: Chinese bank card with Visa/Mastercard logo?

I've heard about the CMB gold card with the Visa/Mastercard logo on it, so does this mean that I can use it on foreign websites to make purchases when they don't accept Unionpay cards? Can someone share their experience going abroad and using the card? Can you withdraw money from any atm directly from your CMB account? Are there any other banks that have a card like this? I'm talking about the atm/debit card, not a credit card. Thanks in advance for any recommendations.

With Union Pay you can withdraw almost anywhere in the world. I think I had it difficult in India but in most countries it can be used to take money from the ATM.

Regarding a Visa or Mastercard Debit card, I tried to get it but was unable to. If somebody had any luck please share.

hi2u:

The reason I ask is because I want to be able to use my Chinese bank card to make purchases online from foreign websites that don't accept Unionpay. Most that I've seen don't accept payments from Unionpay, so I'm interested to know if I can get a Chinese bank card with the Visa/Mastercard logo on it, does that mean it isn't recognized by the foreign websites as Unionpay?

Alright cool, btw if you don't mind saying, why weren't you able to get one for yourself? Are they hard to get?

They told me only Union Pay, no why. If I want Visa or MasterCard I must have a house in China.

I have no credit card at all so imagine it's a pain in the a** when I need to buy air tickets or book hotels.

If you have a Chinese Master Car or Visa Card you need to put dollars into, It has this feature. If you put U.S dollars into it you can use it aboard. The Visa part has the U.S dollars in it, and the The China Union Pay has the Chinese Money in it.

You cannot use a CMB Gold Mastercard/Visa Debit Card to make purchases online. It can be used at ATM's and POS when traveling abroad. It has very little advantage over standard bank UnionPay debit cards other than it looks like a credit card when used overseas and occasionally, you will find POS merchants that will take Visa/Mastercard by not UnionPay.

CMB will give you USB stick to use for online purchases, however it never worked out for me.
I usually swing by Bank, and ask them to do online purchases for me.

You can use CMB ATM card anywhere, where Visa/Mc logo is displayed.
ATM purchases out of China will be deducted/converted from your Rmb holdings on account, with 'spot exchange rate' applied. That's the lowest exchange rate possible.

You can withdraw cash at any (Visa/Mc) ATM machine around the world.
Write 'laowai friendly bank' for thread on CMB in search above…..Don't listen to Kaiwen 'cause he's jealous…LOL

A:I'll give my two cents on the age part. It's not as easy but can definitely be done. I was 21, fresh out of university and landed my first teaching job in china as a homeroom kindergarten teacher on a pretty standard 20,000/month salary. I'm 1 year in now and am still happy. Pretty much all international kindergarten jobs on here want 2 years experience, but many will still accept if you have experience in your home country. With that being said, being white and having a nice looking face is much more of a decision factor in china vs the west, if you can- use it to your advantage. Good luck finding something! -- brinsleym
