Q: Chinese can't even drive a Shopping Cart?

Security footage of a Chinese grandmother killed by a runaway supermarket trolley shows the 66-year-old had no inkling she was in any danger until the very last moment.
The footage, posted on YouTube, shows the overloaded metal trolley speeding down an escalator before crashing into the woman at the Lianhua supermarket in Shanghai last Friday morning.
The woman tragically can be seen turning to face the trolley a split-second before impact.
The collision sent her flying into a pillar about 7m away from where she was struck.
The video then shows two men running down the escalator towards the fatally injured woman, as a crowd gathers to help pull debris off her.
The woman was reportedly taken to hospital but died from her injuries.
Instead of using the usual supermarket trolleys, the men had reportedly loaded a trolley of their own with 15 crates of drinks that weighed 150kg.
Police are investigating

It would have to be their own trolley, any store I've been in with an escalator, the trolleys were stuck with magnets to the escalator. They won't move. Didn't anyone yell ''look out below?""

it's the groves in the escalator that grabs the trolleys. if you look closely at the wheels you will see that the moving part of the wheel is two discs on either side, it then has a center (probably made of rubber) that cannot turn, this will be stuck on the escalator when the outer discs fall into the groves.
it is sometimes possible to get a cart to roll a bit on these escalators, but it is also likely that e.g. a pallet lifter is at play. If loaded, the speed it could build and the momentum would be significant.

I didn't know you could drive shopping carts. What's the speed limit on that thing anyways? Do I need to wear my seatbelt and check my lights before I press on the pedal to go? (

I used to think the reason I've never seen any Chinese with serious mental disease is because of euthanasia. Now I know it's because they're locked inside, chained to computers and given bowls of rice based on how many posts they make on ECC.

OK. Shouldn't have looked for the footage of this, in no way a nice thing to see. The woman is hit hard. There is a couple of other people in the shot who are quick to help with Chinese characteristics (stand and stare) and a guy who comes running down the escalator, likely the guy who let go of the trolley.

From the comments on YouTube "According to a report on Stomp and QQ two men had loaded a trolley of their own with 15 crates of drinks, instead of using a supermarket trolley - store trolleys are adapted to lock onto the ridges on the escalator."

I fail to see there is anything to investigate. Two people can be charged with reckless behavior leading to the death of an innocent woman.
It's tragic but freak accidents happen everywhere.

This is not a freak accident. This is murder caused by an individual's extreme selfishness and stupidity and disregard for others. This combo is china specific

Even if it was caused by their selfishness, it still wouldn't be murder. Man-slaughter maybe, but certainly not murder!
In China, the kids can't even steer those little plastic sit on carts without causing mayhem. They might look harmless enough, but it is no fun getting whacked on the back of the ankles by one of the local irks trying to operate his little pride and joy.
And this on the heels of that tragic parking accident. Chinese need to learn the value of common sense.

they need to learn their own limitations. the woman who killed herself and her husband, what a twat to go behind the controls of something she obviously had not had sufficient training in controlling. it could have been a kindergarten she had plowed through

the sad thing is, when i think of that story i can't make it to the tragedy. i get stuck on how is it even possible to kill 2 people (including yourself crushing your own skull) while parking a car. how? how stupid does onehave to be?

Sad story about that lady. How was she to know? She's from a different time, a different place, a different world.
