Q: Is a Chinese degree equivalent to a western degree?

What about a Chinese Masters or a Doctorate?

It would depend on the field.

Take for example, the work required to become an Urologist in USA and China.

In USA, 4 years of College for a BS in Biology or similar, then 4 years of medical school, one year as intern and 2 years as Resident, plus 2 to 3 years in the surgery training.

In China, 4 years of College, one as intern and two as Resident.

In this particular field, evidently not equivalent.  Now choose who will operate your prostrate gland..........

Actually, you just need a 4 year degree in America. It could even be a degree in Music Studies. You just need to pass 1-1.5 years of science coursework before or after, and maintain good grades, take your MCAT, get a good score, and then get accepted.

China considers 60% to be a passing score (70% at Fudan, but Fudan is just as stupid). I was able to go to "medical school" here if I wanted to, but decided against it. China considers color blindness to be a disability which makes you ineligible to study medicine. In America, even deaf people can become surgeons, let alone color blind folk.

And then there's all the rampant cheating and bribing. In America, even 80% on all courses will unlikely get you into medical school, let alone 60%. It's just not happening. No, a Chinese degree is in no way equivalent to a western degree.

You might browse a few worldwide university ranking sites to find an answer. There are too many reasons for Chinese university's low rankings to list here.

I doubt it, I strongly doubt it! The answer it's obvious. Mostly any studies here, expect them outside of China to be downgraded to the point that you may have to start  studying over again.

I am sure that as an educational background filling in your CV  with studies done in China may have an important weight at finding a job or I don't know what else. But to get the equivalence for them it's just impossible as to my understanding.

The most efficient way to use your time and never find problems about your degree you get in China is studying Chinese language. If you can get a Master or PhD in Chinese literature, for example, then you will never be denied the equivalence at all. Well, to behonest, in Western Countries you don't need an equivalence for Chinese langauge.

most post grads i met simply do errands for their "tutors" like cook dinner, clean their homes, baby sit, do their work for them. and then after a few years they are given a degree.  i taught a masters english class. it was a joke , they asked me to do it the day before the class started, a didn't give me the book until half way through. but they made it very clear that i was to be "friendly and entertaining"

when it comes to schools in china the hard work is to get in (tests), but once in just pay your tuition and show up to class

LAR:

crimo,

Exactly!!! South Korea is the same!! Once the students get to university, it's just Party Time! I could give you many examples myself of lazy, unmotivated, rude and obnoxious Chinese university students.

with chinese population problems, 4 year undergraduate, 3 year masters,3 years doctorate, its just a babysitting government program to hide how bad the educated unemployment would be if they did not keep students warehoused until there 30 years old.

considering how many western graduates pursue a masters to chinese graduates and your have to wonder how legitimate the whole process is even if you have never gone to china.

A: "... through ..."?  Only "through" comes to mind is "Shenzhen agent can connect you with an employer, who's authorized to hire waigouren ... and can sponsor Z visa." It's not like every 10th person you meet in Shenzhen's hood can sponsor work visa ...  The only way to change from student to labourer visa is just a regular way by: 1. Finding an employer, who'll apply for an Invitation letter; 2. Exit China and apply for Z visa in your home country's Chinese embassy; 3. Enter China in 30-days after Z visa was stamped into your travelling instrument ...As I am aware, you won't be able to switch to Working permit by remaining in China....,so make ready for a return to your home .... -- icnif77
