Q: Chinese driving demerit points

I've been told by my lady that when I verged across an unbroken white line to change lanes near an intersection, that she will lose her licence since I was driving her car.  Im guessing there is a demerits point system and have seen some intersection cameras at some intersections, but how many points do you lose for doing this? How many points do chinese drivers get to lose? 12?  How do any chinese drivers keep their licences with the ridiculous driving that they "ALL" do?

A license comes with 12 points. Assuming the camera at the intersection catches you that's a two point violation against whoever's license you use to register the ticket... That's my experience, anyway (also, one can remove points by doing reeducation on a cell phone app -- the deducted points are restored after a year).

The tickets are usually paid when you renew the yearly registration and they show you the pictures of your violations from the camera if you ask politely. No government agency of judges and traffic courts and the mess that comes with it.

If she has lost 10 points already, and the 2 points would put her at the maximum 12 points allowable - that is possible.  However, if she waits until the next 12 month cycle starts, she could pay the fine at the Traffic Security Bureau at a later date.  It is interesting that anyone with a valid license can walk in and plead guilty to the traffic infraction, pay the fine, and put the points on their own license (China doesn't work too hard to verify the driver actually is standing in - lol).  On the other hand - you could pay a few thousand RMB to the right people, and they can "take care of said tickets", however, I don't know who these people are, you might have to ask around.

Those damn unbroken line fines! I've recieved three in my time driving here, everytime due to having to cross them thanks to cars and trucks just stopping in the street! In Sichuan, it's 3 points and 500 R.M.B. to whomever claims to have been driving. They've attempted to curb driver swapping by having drivers register as main drivers, so now my wife (who's usually manages to acrue 9 points every twelve months) has to be much more careful.

How do Chinese drivers keep their licenses? They license swap, pay someone else to take the points, and have a sixth sense to which traffic cameras are actually operating. If cars are NOT breaking every traffic rule, there's guaranteed to be a working camera. Pay attention, you'll see it plain as day here!

Just pay a friend with a licence but no car to say they were driving. Points go on their licence, not yours.

A:Wow, you really found that nitpicky talking point that elevates the fossil fuel industry to the same level as the interests of humanity. Isn't it all just a "liberal" scam, if you don't look too closely at the absence of logic? "Yes, it must be. My masters are hinting that that's what I should believe!"

You've made it clear you are consciously ignoring the pollution and global warming. Since your handlers, the conservative establishment whose dismantling of the carbon credit system and environmental destruction you choose to ignore, have made it clear you should bark in this direction, you are eager to please!

Such an admirably domesticated, dependable, subservient human. I'm sure your handlers will throw you a bone while they bring home the bacon for themselves. You're so obedient, you deserve a doggie cookie! Who's a good boy? You are! Yes, you are. U-S-A! Woof woof woof! -- coineineagh
