Q: Chinese girlfriend criticize lack of ambition?
I believe I have a nice position at work. I got some workers calling me Milord, but I also haz a boss. It never crossed my mind to try and take over his job.
My Chinese girlfriend asked me the other day when I was getting a promotion. I told her I was quite happy with what I was doing, and didn't feel the need to get one. She got angry at me, saying I was lacking professional ambitions, and that I should always try and aim higher.
I've thought about it, and I was pondering if it is because in Chinese culture, they always aim to be the best, or because she wants "us" to be moar wealthy. Or is it a combination of both?
Chinese always aim to be the best and if she cares for you she want you to have the best. you should feel honored as it shows her care for you to succeed.
in china tradition, people always want to get high position.because that mean wealth and power and others admiration. so that easy to understan why your girl friend ask you so hard. hehe
by the way, there is a proverb in china "夫贵妻荣"， that mean the wife could get respects through her successful husband, so you know```````````````
In a country so obsessed with money, where even in the capital you can go from incredibly rich neighborhoods to complete dumps in just minutes, and of course where you're fighting it off with 1.3 billion other people - yea, you do kinda need ambition.
It makes for a stressful life, lots of crushed ambitions and inflated egos...
Icerock is right, through, being able to brag about your 'insert amazing job title here' boyfriend/husband does have a role...
Time for you to consider taking your boss' position, Poutinedufion...
