Q: Chinese show has opinion "love has an expiry date". Do you agree?

This is from show "Let's get married" that girlfriend watches. The idea some Chinese has is love between couples is only good for three years at best, and then disappears. So much for Chinese concept of "fated love".

You may or may not agree, but remember Chinese don't date like Westerners do.. they go on dates a couple of times as arranged by family, and then get married. This may explain this concept as Chinese don't necessarily get married for love.

What do you think?

In my opinion the western concept of "marriage for love" is only relevant in modern times. If you go back a century, then people married because it provided a means for obtaining a stable life etc.

Also, the concept of marriage is largely based on religion (I haven't got the smoggist what Buddhism says on this) but from natures side there are instincts to pick one (or more) person for life.

I do think the Chinese society, where people get divorced to buy another apartment is sick and is guided by greed rather than need.

" Chinese don't date like westerners do"

Let me tell you as a Chinese,What you said it's exist and I don't think many people will still do it in that way nowdays except weak people or uneducated people mostly I'd say.

so far,I Just know one of my classmate dated a guy arranged by her family as she's so weak ,has no idea what she wants and she's not Independent too.

We all meet guys like Westerners do,No difference. I remember when I was around 20,there's a rich guy who liked me a lot,My mum thought he's a nice guy too,but I had no feelings for him at all,so,I Ignored him.one day, mum said to me,maybe you should give him a chance something like that,I didn't say anything back to mum,a few months later, mum talked about that guy to me again which made me so angry and I said to Mum,Mum,If you really liked him so much,Maybe You should marry him LOL,mum was so shocked and  Shut up straight away.Since then, she lets me to make all decisions and My dad too.Including I married my western Husband.

As they know,They could not control me as I am pretty strong,Independent and know what I want.nobody can stop me except myself.

Seriously,As a woman,You have to be Independent and know what you want, the most important is ,follow your heart.

I used to watch that show sometimes too when I was in China and found out It's quite boring after a while,"Love has an expiry date",I'd say,It depends,If you marry someone for Money,Yes,Love has an expiry date .on the other hand,If you marry someone for Love,It will last for forever or at least Love has no expiry date.

DrMonkey:

Amen to that. The generation born in the 80's seems more likely to choose things for themselves, husband/wife included. That does include clashing with parents. The married men here might know a thing or two about that ^^

Exactly.  Love does not expire, but lust and greed certainly will given enough time.
