Q: Clearing a parcel sent from the US through USPS

Recently we ordered some equipment from the US. The first item, a pair of professional headphones worth around 1200RMB came via Fedex. Apparently, online purchase is not allowed for receiving in China, and so the Fedex agent advised us to either assign a broker [name supplied] or to import as a Company Sample. We c hose Company Sample, and received the goods.

The second item is a professional DJ Controller for music mixing, also from the US worth around 6000RMB. This was sent by USPS and arrived in China early April. 3 weeks later we received a letter from the China PS asking if we wanted to send the goods back, or import. If import, we had to give them Power of Attorney, and assign a broker. We of course tried to use the broker suggested by Fedex, but they cannot handle it. The Post office cannot suggest a broker, and they have not offered us the ability to import as a Company Sample.

What can we do? We do NOT want to send the goods back.

A:I'd say, most likely not ... You must exit China and apply for Z at the Chinese Embassy in your native country. Now, if you will talk to the potential employer/sponsor of Z visa, they will certainly guide you through the right procedure. Z visa sponsor must apply for your Working permit and employer must state at the application, where do you want to apply for Z visa and all that must be approved by the Foreign Expert Bureau (I think, they renamed that org. ...). In old times (pre 2017), it was required to apply for Z in your home country's Chinese Embassy at your first Z application and after that, it was possible to apply for Z visa at the Chinese Embassy in Hong Kong's Wanchai ...  Whole Z visa application procedure is nicely explained here: -- icnif77
