Q: Coffee Beans or ground coffee?

Where can I buy whole coffee beans or ground coffee? There is a Costa nearby but that does sell what I'm looking for and neither does any of the Starbucks. All shops carry mostly instant coffee and lets face it instant coffee sucks. Any suggestions or ideas?

Taobao. You can get some pretty good coffee from Yunnan. I am sitting with a cup of Blue Mountain Coffee right nowm and it is just as it should be.

they also have ground coffee if you feel lazy.

you can actually go one step further and get the raw beans and then read this http://coffeegeek.com/guides/popperroasting then you can get your very own personalized roast. .... and yes, it is better when the beans are freshly roasted, freshly ground, just before being used for being a cup of black power.

When I am desperate for coffee but no coffee at home, i run to Carrefour and buy ground coffee.

I go back home once a year so I bring a lot with me (coffee and body spray are my priority shopping list back home). Before leaving home, I post extra to my address. Beside home, usually once a year either me or someone from office go outside China and bring some.

My swedish colleague once told me that whenever he finds IKEA, for example Beijing,  he brings coffee. Guiyang has no IKEA.

ok thank both for your answers. I do not have a chance to fly back to Poland right now. I live here in Beijing in Chaoyang District. Do not know where there is a Carrefour here but will do an internet search and see if I can find it. You have both been a great help. Thankx

Scandinavian:

In Beijing you would be able to find an IKEA. I've heard other Scandinavians talk well of the IKEA ground coffee (I believe it is fairtrade and organic)

If you're in Beijing try Jenny Lou's or any of the foreign-import stores.

If I remember right there is a Carrefour right near the Guomao metro station.

whole coffee beans (taobao) have kept there flavor better than ground coffee has. I had really good experiences w/ that Redwood Company....  you can get a small Hario hand-cranked bean grinder off of taobao too.  then a nice little French Press and U r in Bizness !   excellent little cuppa joe for a fraction of those starbuck type cafe's....
