I'm going to be traveling on China Eastern and another Chinese airline soon and in one instance will have a 1.5 hour window to hop on another flight (late at night). Knowing how notoriously late Chinese airlines run, I was wondering what the policy is for missed connections due to delays or technical problems or whatever.
If it's a late night flight and I have to wait the next day, do they pay nigh accommodation at a hotel? A free breakfast, etc...
How does it usually work?

had a massively delayed flight with Hainan airlines during fog cover in Beijing/Shenzhen/Sydney. Beijing flight was delayed by 5hours missed the connecting flight to Sydney. The former hainan route to Sydney was 3x weekly so had to wait 2days. Put me in the hotel for those 2 days just outside the airport and they gave us vouchers for the restaurant downstairs.
Only speaking for Hainan airlines though not sure about the others. And Hainan is a 5 star airline.
If the connection is with the same airline my experience is that they will look after you. I had a delayed flight into Shanghai from Sydney last year with China Eastern. My connection to Shenyang was the last flight that night and we would have missed it but they held it up for 10 minutes and gave us ( there were about a dozen others with the same connection) a quick transition between the flights.
From what others have told me and from what I have read on the net if they are different airlines it will cost you for the change of booking for the missed flight.
They usually put you up for a night or two including meals if the delay is 24 hours or longer
