Q: Context in China?
With such a stark difference between classes in China ..how is propaganda any different in China than in the US? Different tools and power structure but same intended result.
On the eve of the most consequential US election in memory I have a serious question.
If Americans were truly free (in all senses) then why would this election even be close if they really knew what was best for the country or who they can trust?
I think too many Chinese people accept the status quo for obvious reasons of a dream of a better future ignoring (for obvious reasons) the corruption that surrounds them whilst dreaming of escape...but they will never admit this in public.
How are they any different from each other....details aside...there are just as many people in the US that are just as diluted and brainwashed as there are in China..per capita..and once gain it all boils down to education and who can afford it.
Are we all the same and just creatures of our environment?
Huh? To answer the question I would say no to are we creatures of our environment. I disagree with the election being the most consequential and it's tied because two people have strong cases to lead the country or it's just split down the middle with half the people favoring one guy half the other guy. Jeez and I thought I needed a vacation!
Forgive me please but who and what august authority has determined this to be the most consequential election in U.S. history? I thought that might have either been Hoover/Roosevelt or Lincoln/whomever. And yes, we are all products of the environment -- one only thinking of the saying by John Donne.

I said in memory..and for me there have been about 9 presidential elections in my lifetime.
Supreme court appointee's in the next 4 years will be at least 2 and maybe 3.
On the cusp of economic recovery we had to endure the prospect of a return to the economic policies under Bush (which started under Reagan) which would have truly bankrupted the country for the benefit that the rich would really take over.
On foreign policy we could have gone neo-con back to the Bush era or we could have continued the inclusionary and multi-lateral approach to diplomacy.
Consequential? Yes.
Confucius said (really, he did) we all have the same nature. It is our habits that make us different.

Yeh, of course we're all just the same. Things ain't any better in the states than here, it's just one way of getting tricked compared to another. That's why I don't knock what I see here, because I don't see it as any worse than what I grew up with. It's the monetary system, it breeds corruption. Hail the day it fails and we can grow up.

Interesting, i've never seen the show. Thought it was just a Peppers tune. Sounds like the character may have been inspired by Bukowski. He sometimes called himself Hank in his books, was certainly moody, a writer of course and a California man. Californication suggests sex of course, and Bukowski was, by his own admission, a dirty old man. I'll seek out that show.
In the states you have the freedom to be an ignorant redneck. If you don't want to pay attention to anything and just be an idiot, you can. Unfortunately, they get all riled up around voting time by the Republican party who drives them to the polls by convincing them that what is bad for them will help them because Jesus said so.
In China, the government keeps you ignorant.
Which is better? Well, I'd prefer to choose.
funny funny funny. usa is the worse example of a democracy but chinese paid commentators insist on using usa as an example of democracy. and even the paid commentators that claim to be from uk claim to know about life in the us.
first off, the govt in the us is the way it is because the majority of the people in the us are making bad choices. in china the people have no choice. in the usa things are slowly getting better, we now have healthcare taking form in the states. in the uk they have great healthcare. but you know what that doesn't matter the fact is this, many chinese who are in the know are trying to leave china. they have already sent their money and/ or children out of china. (see nytimes haha) these are the same people who hire and give the marching orders to the (edit) wumaos claiming all other countries are like china hahahahaha. because of the money system (out of china's control) hahahaha . let's look at a fact, ever since the world adopted a monitory system the world has become a less violent place. conflict is now a small percent of what it used to be. now with a global economy, conflicts now are too costly (see japan vs china territorial dispute)

Creatures of our environment? I say we are creatures of our own corruption. On paper, a perfect democracy or a perfect communist government should work. They both have good intentions. The reasons why they are both broken (along with every other form of government on this planet) has more to do with our own nature than ideology. Man is corrupt, selfish and greedy. When these qualities of ours are allowed to get out of control (and they always do), they can break any system. We are doomed from the start.
