Q: cost of visa and refund
Does anyone in here know about what is the standard when it come to paying for the visa required to work in China? are employers generally willing to pay for the visa expenses and other expenses related to visa such as tickets out of the country? or is it the norm that the employed person will pay for this by himself.

Most employers will pay the visa costs, the medical exam costs and reimburse you for the cost of your flight.
If you get a job offer with none of those things provided for, I'd say stay away.
Totally depends on the organization you are working for. Universities will usually reimburse you, but private schools vary greatly, there is no "norm" here in China, it up to the suppluy and demand thingy and your ability to be persistant and demanding.

Basically by Chinese law flight reimbursement is a requirement per year. Annually, if this doesnt happen, you have up to 3 years to get it from your employer or former employer. The visa costs are strictly up to the schools discretion. However, if they want you to do the paperwork, then they probably have no right to hire foreigners.
The typical contract is visa paid for, medical paid for and 6000 to 8000 rmb flight reimbursement if the contract is completed successfully. Now my advice for all when it comes to flight payments and you expect to leave the school is go on vacation first, use your money for the reimbursement and then give a thirty day notice. Too many schools have used the reimbursement as a scare tactic, you don't re-sign the contract you dont receive the flight costs.
